the farmers and the pickers who
arc coming in asking for work.
San Patricio County has ginned
h total of 20,611! bales of cotton;
as of 8 a.m. Thursday mowing,
thus hearing out the early season ’
predictions that the total for the '•
county this year would probably
fall below 40,000 bales. It is esti-
mated by most ginners that the
halfway point in ginning has been ‘
reached and in some areas farm-
el's have finished their picking.
Ginning figures from the coun-
ty's 22 gins show that the heav-
iest ginning is in the Taft-
Odem- Gregory area where it. t*
considered that tne best cotton
is located this year. Mathis’ three
gins which usually account for a j
large section of the county’s gin- ,
nings, have ginned a total of Icju 4
than 2500 bales.
Despite the fact that the per i
acre yield in the county as s
whole will be low some farttui in
the Taft area are experiencing ]
good yields with some dry iatud \
cotton running up to a bale per
acre. Most of the cotton ic Sd*. j
area is running better than one* j
