Seeing Better While Driving—Do’s and Don’ts
Safety experts report that 85 to
90 percent of the information we
need for safe driving comes through
our eyes. Here are some tips that
will help your driving vision.
•DO keep your windshield and
windows clean, inside and out. Dirt
on windshields acts as a filter, re-
ducing and scattering light and in-
tensifying glare.
•DON'T add tinting to wind-
shields or windows. This will re-
duce your vision.
• DO keep wi per blades clean and
replace them when they start to
streak or smear your windshield.
•DO keep all mirrors clean.
To make sure your car is more
visible to other drivers, follow these
suggestions:
• Keep your low beams I not park-
ing lights) on when driving in the
daytime.
•Select a car with a light, bright
exterior color. These are easier for
Adding tinting to your wind-
shield is not a good idea, it will
reduce your ability to see.
other drivers to see than darker
colors, especially at night or in the
rain.

AIR FRESHENER — A piece of
eucalyptus dropped unnoticed out of
a flower arrangement, and I inadver-
tently left it overnight in my car. The
next day when I opened the door,
there was the most delightful
fragrance inside — better than the
car freshener I had been using. So I
decided to leave the eucalyptus right
where it was to freshen up my car.
Wilma T,, Stuart, Neb.
HEAT REGISTERS — During
my general housecleaning, I noticed
that the heat registers were in real
need of cleaning. In fact, they looked
so bad, I thought they would need
sanding and repainting.
I realized that it would be a good
idea to wash them before I tried to
refinish them, and I thought about
how easily my dishwasher removes
even stubborn grease. So I took the
registers apart and put them into the
dishwasher.
When they were finished, they
looked brand-new. There was no
need to refmish after all. Kelly P.,
Alexandria, Va.
ARTHRITIS — My mother has
arthritis, and to make it easier for her
to open drawers, cabinets, the dryer
and the refrigerator, we put fabric
loops through the handles. She can
slip her arm through the loop and
open the doors with just a pull. John
