ber the three R's: relaxation
range of motion and resistance.
"Regular exercise can be bet
ter than medication for manj
people," seid David Brennan, ar
exercise physiologist at Bayloi
College of Medicine in Houston
The first R, relaxation, is as
simple as easing into the pool
tensing the muscles and slowlj
relaxing them several times.
The second R, range of mo
tion, involves slowly rotatinganc
flexing the joints that need exer
cise. This may require the help o
a therapist to be sure the arm oi
leg is moving correctly.
Resistance, the third R, builds
muscle strength around the joint
by increasing the speed of under,
water movements. Strap-on de
vices that capture more watei
with movement can create
greater resistance.
\ typical pool workout should
last about 30 minutes.

How about the weather! Temperatures in the nineties and then
rain and nights and Sunday and Monday were back in the
eighties. But -- this is Texas. Expect the unexpected!
A non-Texan was asking the other day - what's so special about
being from Texas. His ears are probably still ringing. If you are a
Texan, even a transplanted one, you'll agree there is no place on
earth like Texas.
Several family reunions were conducted last week. Wayne and
Margaret Money were at Lake Texoma for a reunion with his
brothers and sisters and their families.
Mike and Angie Horton from Georgia and their family were here
over the weekend visiting parents, James and Jean Harkins, grand-
mother Helen Everett and brothers in the area. They also attended
their family reunion.
Bill and Molly Gillmore were also out of town for afamily reunion
Saturday.
When your family plans a reunion, look forward to it and be
excited about visiting cousins, aunts, etc. on a happy occasion. The
only other time we usually see all of our relatives is at a funeral.
Bill Gilchrist lost his fight for life Friday night. This man will be
sorely missed by his many friends and relatives, his wife, Martha,
and his children and grandchildren. Bill has been a part of West for
a nu mber of years.
George and Janie McMahan were in West over the weekend to
be with friends and family and to attend the funeral of Bill Gilchrist
Sunday afternoon.
Moms, do your children attend the summer reading session at the
West Library on Wednesdays? Anna Urbanovsky is in charge of the
story times. Call your Library for more information.
Also, over 100 boys and girls have signed up for the summer
reading program. They won't be bored or complaining about not
having anything to do.
We have ladies night once a month at church. This is a special
night for us to meet together, to sing songs of praise to God, to enjoy
all the different salads and desserts and to grow closer to one
another. Those present Tuesday night were Myrtts and LaurieFarr,
Vivian Puckett, Ann Stacy, Sally Kennedy, Jessie Mae Odle, Martha
Neel, Eunice Huffhines, Joyce Pinter, Margaret Money, Delores
Cammack, Molly Gillmore, Jean Harkins, Janna Austin, Connie
Helm, Virgie Clements, Debbie Polansky and Wanda Adair.
Samantha Crain is home for a few days, visitingher parents, Jack
and Susan Crain.
Are you celebratinga birthday this month? If sc, Happy Birthday!
Those that I know about for this month are Freda Mitchell on June
16; Lisa Minton, Ed Trochim and Margaret Money on June 20 and
Cassie Horton is celebrating her birthday this week, too. Hope your
days are super special.
