cert schedule of 200 or more

FORT FEST 2001 is spon-
sored by Fort Parker Historical
Society to benefit the Old Fort as
well as the Amphitheater Project
to develop an annual outdoor
musical dramatizing the life of
Cynthia Ann Parker. Parker was
kidnapped from the fort shortly
after the fall of the Alamo in
1836. She later became the
mother of the late great
Commanche Indian Chief
Quanah Parker. Her life has be-
come a legend in Texas Folklore.
Ever since the State of Texas
relinquished Old Fort Parker
from its care, the Fort Parker
Historical Society has worked
diligently to maintain the Old
Fort as an important Texas land-
mark. With an annual concert
that attracts thousands of people
from across the state, Society
members hope that more and
more people will become aware
of the historic treasure and sup-
port local efforts to preserve and
enhance it.
In addition to Mel McDaniel
Gary Stewart
and Gary Stewart, FORT FEST
2001 will highlight Johnny Lyon
with his band The Country Nu-
Notes and local favorite, Dia-
mondback-TX.
Historic Old Fort Parker is
located in Central Texas on Park
Road 35 off of Hwy. 14 between
Groesbeck and Mexia. The Old
Fort is conveniently located to
several large metropolitan
areas...just a 50-minute drive
north from College Station, a 45-
minute drive east from Waco and
a 90-minute drive south from
Dallas.
Advanced tickets are $12, tick-
ets at the gate are $15 for adults
and $8 for children under age 12.
For more information, call the
Old Fort at 254-729-5253 or pull
