L. B. ANSWERS . .
In reply to your nice write-up
about us and our motor home I
will state categorically, as fol-
lows and to-wit:
ADVENTURES OF A MOTOR
HOMESTEADER
Were you ever out in the
great alone when the sun was
awful hot? With a flat on the
front, no spare, no two-way
radio, no state police in sight,
no sympathy from the myriads
of low-flying travelers. On In-
terstate 40 five miles west and
out of sight of Albuquerque.
What to do? Of course one of
the rear duals would fit but my
wife has had absolutely no ex-
perience with truck flats.
And then — I heard it almost
before I saw it — a ’48 Dodge
pickup. I knew at a glance he
was a local; he couldn't have
come far; and sure enough, he
stopped at my wave. I had been
headed for an apparent business
complex on the distant horizon
farther west but my host in-
formed me it had closed some
time after Coronado’s journey. I
Islands, spent a long night list-
ening to the monsoon rains in
San Antonio, and navigating
the Great Flood in San Marcos
at its height. Arriving home,
our rain gauge showed zero!
Enroute home this trip, we
camped in a nice trailer park at
about 7,000 feet. I was inclined
to count my hardships like
hooking up to city lights, wa-
ter, and sewer until I saw a
small station wagon with Alas-
ka tags pulling a house trailer
and carrying six people of three
generations and a big white cat
on a leash. My sympathies were
with the sat-upon cat.
The credit card returns arc
not all in but I have a feeling
I should have steered clear of
the high-gas district. This is
the first time I have been called
upon to support a full-fledged
Dodge truck equipped with TWO
engines. You suppose I’m eligi-
ble for any kind of aid to the
disadvantaged?
