Maler Texaco Wins
In District Tourney
Perry, Painter Win
Speedway Races

winners in the West Girls
Freshmen League, is
competing this week in the
District Softball Tourney in
Hubbard.
Maler Texaco won its first
round game Tuesday night as
they defeated a Hillsboro
team 21-7. The win sends
them into second round
action Wednesday night
against the winner of the
China Spring-Mart game.
There are four teams
competing in this double
elimination tournament with
the winner qualifying for the
state tournament.
By Arby Rogers
Steve Perry of Dallas and
Don Painter of Austin swept
this weekend’s action at the
Heart O’Texas Speedway
near Elm Mott. Perry in his
*8 outlaw sprinter and
Painter in the #10 pro stock
each won their respective
heats and features and by
doing so also claimed the
point lead in their respective
classes.
Perry snatched the lead
on lap six after early leader
Edd French rolled his car in
turn four. From there on it
was all Perry, as the TSCRA
point leader led the
remaining 19 laps with
conviction, taking his first
main win at the Heart
O’Texas Speedway.
Greg Bluxom took the
Steakley Chevrolet #85 to
second place just ahead of
Marc Madison, Richard
Summers, and Jim Holder.
Perry, Summers and Skip
Wilson took the heats with
Wayne McNally taking the B
Main.
Don Painter of Austin ran
away with the pro stock A
Main in Ed Ritchey’s
Bosqueville Wrecking #10.
After taking the lead from
David Khoury, Painter never
looked back to take his
fourth win of the season.
Khoury did a fine job in the
Waco Carbonic #73 to take
second. Steve Pfieffer, Steve
Daniel and Larry Matus
rounded out the top five.
Painter, Chesley Poteet and
Shaun Fraser won the heats
as Mark McDaniel took the
B Main.
Friday night’s action saw
Butch Eskew, Don Painter,
and Junior Ingram all take
feature victories. Fred Bin-
ner thrilled (or in some
cases, terrified) the crowd
when he flipped his pro
stock on the front straight.
Fred was uninjured, but
unfortunately, his car was
badly bent.
Even before his first birthday, a child benefits from being read to and told simple
stories. Vital for language development, it also gives the toddler the enjoyment of
undivided attention from another member of the family.
