The West Athletic Booster
Club met Monday night, Febru-
ary 26. Since the Trojan baseball
team was playing Rio Vista, we
met by the concession stand with
President Bill Grimm's Chevy
pick-up as the "office". It was a
change and all seemed to enjoy
it.
We discussed a lot of business
and accomplished results in some
important projects. Our next
meeting will be at 7 p.m. Mon-
day, March 11 and we will meet
by the concession stand at Tro-
jan baseball field.
Cindy Hobbs and Dorothy
Warren gave their reports and
they were approved. Under Old
Business, President Bill Grimm
gave us an update on the batting
cage. This project has been slow
in getting it completed, but the
weather failed to cooperate. We
were hoping the cage would be
completed before March 1. Ac-
cording to President Bill, the
pipes are welded and .in place
except for the cement. The slab is
not complete as yet, but hope-
fully this batting cage will be
completed soon!
Mark your calendar now for
our "All Sports Banquet". The
date has been set for Monday,
April 15 at 7 p.m. It will be held
in the WHS Cafetorium. A good
meal will be prepared and en-
joyed by all. The menu includes
barbecue and all the "trimmings”,
plus dessert. Tickets will go on
sale in the next week or two, and
you may purchase one for $5 each
from various Booster Club
members. You may also get your
ticket at the door. We are plan-
ning for 450 or 500 loyal Lady
Trojan and Trojan fans to at-
tend.
We will honor and recognize
all our Trojan and Lady Trojan
athletes who have given us a lot
of exciting moments during the
past eight months. Even though
we didn't make the play-offs in
football or basketball, Coach Pam
Young's volleyball team were
Regional Semi-Finalists. We can
be proud of our athletes and show
our appreciation by attending our
"All Sports Banquet".
We may have another cham-
pion or two before its all over.
champ by one member. The 9th
grade parents came in first in
our parent competition for about
23 weeks, but in Monday nights
meeting the 11th grade parents
won with the 9th and 10th grade
parents tied for second place. Sev-
enth and eighth grade parents
in next. There were
twelfth grade parents present.
We encourage all West area
citizens to come out and vote in
the School Bond election that will
take place Saturday, March 2.
Voting is a right, but it is also a
responsibility. Make your vote
count on Saturday, March 2!

The World As I See It
Are We Too Busy?
By Butch Kettler
Some nights ago, my youngest daughter had a friend spend the ■
night with her. Her friend was a couple of years older and from a 3
family who could give her almost anything she could ever want, Her 1
mom and step-father seem to forget sometimes that she is even §
around. They also have a small son, who is about a year old, so that I
is where all of their attention is directed ninety percent of the time. $
The young girl is always left on the back-burner, so to speak, to soak .7
up whatever attention is left over after they are finished playing with s
the little boy.
The night she stayed with us, after supper that evening, they
played in the back yard, jumping on the trampoline well into the |
evening. After they had finished, my wife called them in and said it 1
was time for their baths. Once that was over, they had a small snack L
and then it was off to bed. They said their prayers and my wife read 1
them a short story, sang them a song, gave both of them a kiss ||
goodnight and tucked them in. As my wife got up and just as she was i
about to turn out the light, the little girl said, "Miss Pam?” and my |
wife replied, "Yes?" and she said, "Magen is so lucky." "What do you
mean?" my wife asked. "My mother never prays or reads or sings to
me at night, and she never tucks me in." All my wife could do was to i
say goodnight and I love you. Her eyes were full of tears by the time f
she reached the living room.
I can't help but to wonder, we as parents, are we forgetting the
little things in life that are so dear to our children’s hearts? Some-
thing that is so simple and only takes a few minutes of our time. If
our life is so busy that we can't take five or ten minutes out of our day
to pray, read and sing to our children, and tuck them in at night, then
we are falling down on our jobs as parents. At this time in a child's
life, when they are so young, they don’t care that Dad has a five or
six digit bank account. They don't even care that all of their
furniture, clothes and toys come from garage sales, The only thing is
that Mother and Daddy love them, and that they show it each and
every day. All they ask is so little, and if we as parents wouldjust take
the time, the results from our efforts would be so overwhelming that
this world would be a better place to live.
How can we expect our children to grow and respect us, when so
early in life they are learning we do not fulfill their needs. If the
pruning is not there, neither will be the fruit.
If you don't have good family values at home, then don't expect
your children to have them either.
The next morning, we got up early and went to Sunday School. As
far as I know, this was her first time in Sunday School, and she had
a great time. She wanted to come back that evening, but Mom and
Dad said no. But we did tell them that if she wants to go next Sunday
with us and they don't want to take her, we will come and get her on
Saturday evening. So once again, she may have a bed time story read
to her and a song.
So many people have asked, "Where is this world headed and what
is this younger generation going to do?”
Well, Moms and Dads, it starts with us. Get back to the basics.

Genesis, Chp. 1: In the beginning God created the heaven and the
earth.
It is not too late for us to turn our lives around.
The Bible comes in many translations so that anyone can under-
stand. If you don't have one, I ask that you go buy one and read from
it every day. Read it to your family, study it, start going to a Sunday
School and Church, and see if your life does not do a three hundred
and sixty degree turn.
Let us pray.
Father, I come to you to ask that you be with all of these children
that do not know you as Lord and Savior. I ask that you touch the
hearts of the parents, convict them in such a way, Father, that they
