West Trojans Journey to Cameron
To Take on Powerful Yoemen
West Trojans travel to
Cameron this Friday for an 8
p.m. football game against
the powerful and undefeated
Cameron Yoeman.
Cameron has an “excep-
tional" team. West Coach
James Shaw said Tuesday
afternoon in assessing his
team’s next opponent. Cam-
eron carried a 3 0 record
into the game with im-
pressive wins over Taylor
(24-7), Belton (31-0) and
Connally (28-0).
The District 23-AAA Yoe-
man will be "the best team
we faced all year,” Shaw
commented while adding
Cameron has a strong,
tough physical team.
Cameron is primarily a
rushing team, running out of
the T-formation offense.
They run the ball "right at
you.” he said, adding the
Yoemen are big and strong
on both offense and defense.
Cameron returns only
three offensive and three
defensive starters from last
year's team. One of the
returning starters is running
back Brent Miller (5-11, 190
pounds and 4.7 speed in the
forty yard dash). Miller
rushed for 100 yards on 21
carries against Taylor and
127 yards on 14 carries
against Belton.
Linemen Kyle Kruse (6-3,
238), David Camp and Lee
Hunt (221) add beef to the
lineup.
West on the other hand
goes into the game with a
1-3 record following a 20-3
homecoming loss to Mexia
last Friday Despite scoring
only three points in the last
two games, Shaw said his
offensive troops show signs
of improvement. ‘‘Offen-
sively we are starting to
come together,” he said, "I
think we will be all right.”
West running back Dink
Stewart rushed for 105 yards
against Mexia He is the
first West runner to gain
over 100 yards in a game
this season.
This is the final non-
district game for West,
before district action starts
next Friday against La Vega.
The West junior varsity is
scheduled to play Cameron
at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at
Trojan Field.
West fans traveling to
Cameron may want to arrive
at Yoe Stadium early. The
Cameron PTA is sponsoring
a chili-to-go sale from
5:30-7:30 p.m. at the main
gate of the football stadium.
The chili, which is in 12
ounce cups with crackers, is
to sell for $1

Hospital Admissions
The recent outcry over the West Community Hospital
Board’s decision to provide office space by building a clinic
and bringing a new doctor to West was reasoned by the
board as a move to encourage more local persons now
going outside West, to stay at home for medical services.
Records at West Community Hospital for the past five
years reflect that less than 41 percent of the patients
admitted are from West. The lowest was 38.7 percent in
1982-83 and the highest was 42.4 percent in 1984-85. The
local admissions never reached 50 percent during the entire
period, and each year during this time all adrhissions
declined including West patients.
The figures given below are from one accounting year to
another, generally October through September, except this
year which reflects 11 months as the September totals were
not yet available.
