across the street from the

were inducted into the
Army.

Well, we are at our
temporary location, until the
Community Center is built
at First Baptist Church.
What a job! We are not
finished putting things up yet
but what a lovely place we
have, thanks toFirst Baptist
Church of West. We
appreciate their kindness to
us. There are no words to
express our thanks and
appreciation
Now, this is not
recommending anything to
anyone, but from
experience I found out
something for my heartburn
mix a little honey and cider
vinegar. A few swallows and
like magic, they’re gone.
Not saying it will help
everybody It's just what I
do
Remember All Saints Day
and All Souls Day coming
up this weekend and the first
part of November.
Joe Stiborek. welcome
back to Slap
A truck stopped on the
highway and the car behind
it crashed into it The driver
yelled. “Why didn't you put
out your hand? The truck
driver said, “If you couldn’t
see the truck, how could
you see my hand.” Cute,
isn't it?
Rev. Allen, thank you for
the devotional.
Please keep the paper
and glass for a while until we
get more settled at our
Center Then we’ll tell you
how we will manage to get
them.
Here is a little saying
called “riches". You are
richer tonight than you were
this morning, if you have
taken time to trace the
handwork of your fellow
man in the common-place
things of life.
Some mornings feel like
"longjohn" weather - by
afternoon, it’s bikini
weather.
Guess you can start on
your plans for Thanksgiving,
since it's just around the
corner.
Cookie, who is Edna
Thun, even though you are
our wonderful cook, you do
so many other things, just
like when we got ready to
move, you started packing a
week ahead of time, which
wasn’t even in your
category. You help in so
many ways. In behalf of
Edith and all our members,
many thanks.
TIPS-
from
Betty Crocker
Break The
Brown Bag Blahs
Bag it, box it or bundle
it in a colorful kerchief.
But by all means, make it
inviting! We’re referring, of
course, to those movable
feasts that are toted daily
to school, work and social
outings by an increasing
number of children and adults.
Whether for a late fall
picnic or school noon hour, a
lunch with punch takes a
little planning and imagina
tion - with particular emphasis
on food safety, nutrition and
appeal.
By keeping hot foods hot
and cold foods cold, you
are guarding against harmful
bacterial growth. Foods can
spoil quickly in warm lockers,
desks and cars. Very often,
there is no sign of this dan-
gerous deterioration in taste
or appearance.
Fortunately, there are
many products available to
the lunch-box brigade that
protect foods from spoilage
and other damage.
A spotlessly clean, well
ventilated lunch box is a
practical, healthy beginning
Add to that insulated con-
tainers (wide mouthed for
soups, stews, chili, salads,
sandwich fillings, and narrow
necked for beverages). Sturdy,
one serving-sized containers
keep air from drying out
sandwiches, desserts, condi
ments, fruits and vegetables.
Bags, wrapping materials and
other helpful devices like
bag-sealers keep foods fresh.
Perk up the predictable
by offering a variety of sand
wich fillings, breads, bread
sticks or buns, fruits
Betty Crocker has some
innovative answers
Try main-dish pasties or
dessert turnovers fashioned
from pie crust mix or sticks.
Muffins and quick breads,
prepared in minutes from
mixes, make inviting alterna
tives to the usual sandwich
breads
Also from a mix are angel
food cakes in a variety of
flavors, golden pound cake
and an array of Snackin’
Cakes. Perfect for toting,
they are firm and moist
enough to avoid crumbling
by Connie Kinsel
Seems like so many of our
pretty birds are gone, except
those hateful blue jays. You
know what a beautiful sight
is when it snows? To see the
red birds out.
If you have flowers and
plants outdoors, keep your
ears and eyes open on the
weather so you’ll know
when to bring them in.
You Senior Citizens come
visit us. Remember, all of
you, we are now at our
temporary center, First
Baptist Church of West.
By the way, on the north
side of the church, there is a
door with no steps leading
inside. Therefore, there is
no excuse not to come to
Slap, you are unable to
"navigate" stairs.
Guess I'll close with this
little saying. “Nothing you
put into a banana split is as
fattening as a spoon ”

One way to cut driving
costs in the winter is to
clean the snow and ice off
from under the fender to
reduce gas eating weight.
