WACO - Tom Chapin known
as the pied piper of children's
musicandhostofthe ABC Emmy-
winning kids series "Make A
Wish" will be in concert at the
Hippodrome Theatre for three
performances on January 20.
Chapin's songs about the
underwater outlaw, Billy The
Squid, his musings on Vitamin
Si, the joy of clutter and a prin-
cess with hiccups have made him
a favorite performer for four to
eleven year olds and their fami-
lies.
Chapin concert performances
are scheduled at 9:30 a.m., 1:00
p.m. and 7:30 p.m. which is a
special early evening family
performance.
For the daytime performances,
reservations are suggested for
schools and day care groups
numbering over 10 persons.
Tickets are $3.50 for daytime
general admission and $7 to $12
for reserved seats for the evening
performance.

West High School Trojan Band
member and trombonist, John
Wiihoite, has won a place in the
Region 8 Band.
Regional Band try-outs were
held December 10 at Waco High
with musicians from high school
bands throughout the Central
Texas area competing against
each other on their instruments
to qualify for the region band.
Also representing West in the
Region Band compeition were
Lisa Sulak, Alto Sax, and Will
Straten, Bari Sax.
Wiihoite will play in the All-
Region Band Concert scheduled
in Killeen January 14. the con-
cert will feature a variety of music
ranging from traditional bad
compositions to movies themes
and popular music.

I like dogs. That's quite an admissiorlw ven you realize that I
never had one until nine or ten years ago! I lid not even want one,
until then. As a child I was even afraid If them. They were "the
enemy".
I bought my first dog, a poodle, in a

I don't know why, but those pups strucl
certainly didn't do anything to earn my falof. I ended up choosing

never even got a look. I
Sometimes I wonder why God chooses us td be his people. I know
it's not because of any good in us. We aren'tjloLable like those pups.
