quiry nbont the '‘racket” wo were
giving him. He denies positively
that ho was drunk; says lie bad tuk-
en possibly three or lour drinks;
that he was on liis beat all night
and left it sober at. the usual hour.
In proof of this ho Yiumos good wit-
nesses. Mr. J. Raynal made the
charge oi dninkenoss against Mr.
Yocum yesterday morning to a Her-
ald reporter. AVo are informed that
Mr. R. denies having made such a
charge. The question narrows
down to one of voracity between Mr.
li. and the HeuAI.d reporter. To
tho charge of playing cards Mr. Yo-
cum pleads guilty on tho occasion
named, hut says he was not on du'y
and that his time was his own. This
charge of card playing was made by
policeman llulljwhy Mr.Hall .should
complain of Mr. Yocum and not ol
Mr. VVright, als i a policeman,(whom
Mr. Yocum says was playing cards
with him) we cannot understand.
Whether card playing while on duty
is consistant with a pol cctmiti or
not we do not protend t>> say.

admits the charge of playing cards,
