We arc informed hr Mr. F.G.Barnhart
that tiie appraisers have valued his semi-
nary claim, of 160 acres, adjoining the
city, at the enormous sum of $jo per acre.
This is certainly,too high ; especially,when
we consider the promises held out to men
of small means to settle oil the school
lands. Mr. Barnhart had sold his claim
for $500, but on learning the above the
party failed to come down with the
stamps.

Mr. Woolacott, our enterprising dealer

Cattt* Men In Council.
The following cattle dealers and ship-
pers ait in the city, arranging for the
Spring trade, which wi 11 shortly open :
Col. Strnhorn, of Chicago; C. C.
■Slaughter, of Dallnv; 15. Gatewood, ot
Ennis; F. M. Goodwin, of Clay County,
and Col. Day, Geo. B. Loving, Mr.
Combs, and others, of this citv.
They anticipate a lively cattle trade
at this point this season*.
He left the ranch last Saturday, coming
via Weatherford.
Mr. Loving informs us a party of four
Indians raided into Jack county, in the
vicinity of Lost Valley, Saturday and
Sunday nights, last, and succeeded in
driving off between 3.5 and 40 head °*'
horses. Twelve of the animals belong to
Mr. J. C. Loving and ten to CJeo. 15. and
J. B\ Loving. Fourteen men belonging
to Capt. Stevens’ Wise County Rangers,
under command of a Lieutenant, started
in pursuit, and as they were only four
hours behind them it is thonght they will
succeed in recovering the horses, and
possibly give the Indians a jgood chastis-
ing to boot.
A Mngnlflrcnt ripe.
A friend of Mr. Woollacott bought in
New York at the auction sale of Pollock’s
s'tock ot pipes, which took place a short
time since, a magnificent meerschaum
pipe, of very large size, elegantly carved
in the form of a woolf’s head, with a five
inch amber stem. The pipe and stem
weigh six ounces. The pipe was valued,
as it lay in Pollock’s show case, at $75.
It has been *rnt to Mr. Woolacott to dis-
pose of and he proposes to jjive his friends
an opportunity to secure it. To give all
an equal chance lie has put it up at raffle,
for $35, at a dollar a chance. This is a
rare opportunity to get the handsomest
and best meerschaum pipe ever exhibited
in this city. The chances will go off like
hot cakes, so if you want the pipe don’t
delay to jelect ybur lucky number at once.
