Readers’ Talk
Transfer south, Tim
DEAREST TIM SMITH: Were you
even at the game? I wonder. I was
there and I watched the Eagles play
a magnificent, leading game over the
Longhorns. But you’re right about one
thing — they didn’t whip them for 3
Vi quarters. They whipped them for 3
3/4 quarters. The first of the two calls
you mentioned was really close —
maybe too close to call. But the second
supposed touchdown call was called
wrong.
Besides the live game, I’ve watched
replay after replay from several
different angles, and Keith Cash is so
obviously out of bounds that it makes
me nauseous. If I were the Longhorns,
1 would be ashamed to have won the
game on a call like that. In fact, I give
the Eagles credit for not coming
unglued out on the field.
Even though we were behind as far
as rushing and returns goes, we did
kick their butts on the scoreboard for
the majority of the game and Scott
Davis kicked some serious butt with
his 419 yards passing alone. Now
that’s saying something.
With your talent in writing fiction,
perhaps you should apply for a
scholarship in creative writing at
UT-Austin. There you could support
your obviously favorite team and not
be mortified by the actions of the
Eagles fans.
Your loyalty to NT is pitiful to say
the least.

Hook 'em Horns, Tim
IN RESPONSE TO TIM SMITH’S
Oct. 5 letter to the editor: May I
suggest to you, Smith, that you ought
to withdraw from your classes and
transfer to Austin. Why do you whine
so about The Daily’s coverage of the
NT-UT-Austm football game?
Are you actually orange-blooded,
Tim? Were you in Austin. Tim? Did
you see the numerous replays of the
touchdown catch, Tim? Do you realize
that NT is a Division I-AA team, Tim?
You get real. We might not have won,
but in my opinion we did kick butt,
Tim. Did you even see or hear the
game, Tim? Do you not realize the
receiver was out of the endzone and
the Southwest Conference cops —
referees — gave the bogus catch six
points, Tim? Your ragging about the
game and The Daily’s coverage of it,
is lower than pitiful to say the least.
Tim, UT-Austin’s admission number
is (512) 471-1711. They’ll probably
love you there.

Nuclear power unsafe
THE OCT. 12 EDITORIAL, "End
nuclear secrecy," asks questions that
we all want answers to. And our
ability or inability to handle nuclear
power is part of that scary issue.
Unfortunately, the public isn’t allowed
to know about mishaps — at least until
it’s just too obvious and too late.
Nuclear power is relatively unsafe
to start with. If Du Pont Co. is
mishandling it, that shows their
ignorance and inability to handle such
power. It still baffles me as to why we
even use nuclear power when solar and
geothermal power arc »o much
cheaper.
It’s probably this thirst for a quick
buck that causes men to make hasty
and sometimes disastrous decisions.
Whether it’s for military use or not,
until we are mature enough to handle
it. we shouldn’t touch it.
