slightly during February as the jobless rate fell by three-tenths of

ployment Commission (TEC), the jobless rate for Matagorda
County stood at 14.8-percent in February. That was down from

LCRA gives
MCND #1 receives $36,100 through Community Development Partnership Program
The Matagorda County Navigation District #1 (MCND) received a
$36,110 grant last week from the Lower Colorado River Authority
(LCRA) to be used to develop an adequate oil spill response capability
at foe Port of Palacios. *
LCRA Director Tommy LeTulle presented the check to MCND #1
Commissioner Thomas Holsworth . Also attending the presentation
were Mite Hightower, Deputy Director of Texas A&M University Sea
Grant College Program; Matagorda County Marine Extension Agent
Willie Younger, Palacios Mayor Geo. Holst, vice-president of foe
Matagorda County Economic Development Corporation; Matagorda
'County Judge Loy Sneary; and Marian Balhe, LCRA Customer &
Community Representative.
* The LCRA also presented a $4,900 grant to the Bay City Volunteer
Fire Dept, to purchase communications equipment, which includes
VHF antennae, eight pagers and two portable radios.
The grants from LCRA’s Community Development Partnership
Program are two of 27 recently awarded to communities in LCRA’s
service area. The grants will provide $467,218 to communities in 20
counties.
