Matagorda Co. Soil
Conservation News
The management of crop residue
is a very important part of every
conservation cropping system.
Many of the cooperators with the
Matagorda County Soil and Water
Conservation District are shred-
ding the stalks of grain sorghum,
disking lightly and leaving this
mulch on the surface soil. This
speeds up decomposition as well as
provides cover and protection for
the land during this period of the
year. Grain Sorghum is a soil im-
proving crop when handled in this
Way.
