Living at the Luther
It was not a lack of news but
a family get together which
caused me to miss the dead-
line.
Our sweet niece Susie, Jean’s
only child, flew In from Boul-
der, Colorado, for a whirl-
wind visit and that called for
the gathering of at least some
of the clan.
On Sunday we had a family
feast and gab - fest too of
course. Those coming in were:
Della Callaway, our brother
Bill’s widow and daughter
Margaret of Baytown, Bettye,
Bill and Martha Foulds of Aus-
tin, Dolly, Billy, Walt and Lisa
Hamlin plus the other natives,
Elsie, Charles and Walter and
me.
Of course this isonlyavery
small part of the clan. We
phoned our sister Marian in
California and our only living
brother, James in Beaumont.
Susan’s husband Luigi was
missed but he had to keep the
home fires burning.The Fish-
ers were included too.
It’s difficult to keep up with
a large family when the pa-
rents have died.
The whooping cranes will
soon be going north as our last
Canadians left on Wednesday
morning. Mr. and Mrs. Fallis
were the last to leave on their
2000 or more mile jaunt.
The Peter Fishers left on
Tuesday for Regina. We are so
pleased that these people and
others travel so far to come to
the Luther. They are wonder-
ful people and we are already-
thinking of fall.
Peter doesn’t paint at home
but we keep him busy because
we love his pictures and Ce-
cile’s too. These people en-
dear themselves to us and we
so hate to see them go. We
had about four farewell
parties and dinners for them.
The John Harrimans visit
was so enjoyable but just too
short. We extend best wishes
to John, who had minor sur-
gery.
We are so indebted to Cecile
and Ted Elder for the beau-
tiful, fragrant roses in our
lobby for the weekend. Our
guests and relatives enjoyed
them so much.
Many such projects as rose
growing could be done in our
community to add to its beauty.
I noticed a new volleyball
court by the Mexican Bap-
tist mission. Congratulations
to that group.
Really the change in our town
is so wonderful. So many
places have been cleaned up or
are being cleaned, painted or
torn down.
A few of our glaring junk
spots are the same, so maybe
the mayor and city council
should study an ordinance to
be used for those who refuse
to keep up their property.
Surely local citizens have
enough pride to want to main-
tain clean premises. We can
all enjoy our beautiful clean
town.
Most of our winter visitors
encountered bad weather
either at home or getting
there. _
