TO THE CITIZENS
The election if now
over, the talking time is
past, it is now time to get
on with the nitty gritty of
running the town.
You have a new Mayor
and it makes no difference
if you did or did not vote for
him, the important thing is
and always have been the
betterment of our town.
Rally behind your new

work with him. Get the

around Palacios.
It Is impossible, some-
times, for us to cover an
event ourselves.
That means we depend a
great deal on other people
for stories about happen-
ings at school, in local clubs
and churches and other
organizations. And we ap-
preciate their efforts.
That Is why we feel so
badly when we find It
necessary to leave an Item
out.
But sometimes there Is
no other alternative, espec-
ially when a great deal of
copy Is received Just hefore
our deadline.
The Beacon deadline for

that happens, we
have no other choice but to
hold some items until the
following week, to cancel
some items completely, or
to shorten them.
If we didn’t do this It
would mean The Beacon

Is something a newspaper
avoids at all cost.
Sometimes we make a
mistake and hold or cancel
the wrong Items. This often
happens when there Is a
large amount of copy to
edit.
It may have happened
this week, for example,
because we received a
tremendous amount of stor-
ies and advertising just
before our deadline, and
some were not set in type.
We apologize if this
happened to your story.
If you have an Item for
the Beacon try to bring It In
well before the Monday
deadlinc-Thsrsday or Fri-
day If at all possible.
But no matter when you
bring it In we always
appreciate It, and will do
everything we can to see
that It Is published.

She said: "This is a
dedicated group constantly
trying to help patients in
the hospital, as well as the
nurses and staff of the
hospital. They put in many
hours assisting in many
ways. They also raise
mone;, for buying needed
equipment for the hos-
pital."
Mrs. Howarth, a season-
ed efficient volunteer,
spends a tremendous
amount of time at the local
nursing home, Leisure
Lodge. She is experienced
in this field and has devot-
ed much of her time taking
care of the needs of those
living in the nursing home.
Her smile is contagious,
and residents respond
when she is there doing her
volunteer work.
Having heard these two
ladies tell of their volunteer
work, Wednesday Club
members became more
aware of the role volunteers
play in helping others and
agreed that they deserve
full appreciation for doing
so.
