Sales tax
cheeks now
monthly
Comptroller Bob Bullock is-
sued $16.1 million in checks
Tuesday in the first ever
monthly payment of city sales
taxes. The City of Palacios
received a check in the amount
of $529.19 for this period,
me quarterly system, with a
lag of 60 to 90 days between
the state getting the tax and
when It went tothe cities, had
been in use since the first city
sales tax went into effect tn
1968.
Tuesday’s payments went to
more than 500 towns and cities
for taxes collected between
Feb. 18, the cutoff date of the
last quarterly payment, and
April 4.
Bullock said cities can ex-
pect future montly payments
about mid-month. He said the
first two months payments can
be expected to be less than the
payment of the third month of
each cycle when quarterly tax
payments by merchants come
In.
