Ken Upton of Lafayette, La.
spent a couple of days with his
parents, the H. T, Walters,
recently. He was accompanied
home by Jerry Janes, who
took Ken to New Orleans the
following day where Jerry
got a job on a tug boat.
Mr. and Mrs. Willis Epper-
son spent a few days in San
Antonio visiting her sister,
Mrs. Ruth Spain and family.
The 25th anniversary of the
First Baptist Church was a
great success. Several of our
former members cameforthe
celebration, among them were
Mr. and Mrs. Morris Adams
of Carthage, Mr. and Mrs.
Louis Burney of Refugio, the
Fondon girls, Sunshine of La-
fayette, La Verne and Carolyn
of Houston, Bro. and Mrs.
Harvey Graham of Port Lava-
ca, the Ray Combels from
South Texas, Mr. and Mrs.
John Snoddy of Bay City. Food,
food and food, we had it.
Mrs. Anna Lou Walsh of Ga-
nado was here last weekend
visiting her sister, Mrs. H.
T, Walters and family. Sat-
urday Mr. and Mrs. Loy Ma-
lone and boys of Houston vi-
sited her parents, the Walters.
Mrs. Billy Calhoun and Kim
were here Sunday for the
church celebration and little
Kim spent the week with her
grandparents, the Steve Rick-
aways.
Ma Landers is home from
the hspital again.
It’s a girl!
Kyle Thomas Roach is
spreading the news about his
new sister, Kendra Michelle,
who was born April 15.
She weighed in at seven
pounds 3 and 1/2 ounces and
was 19 inches long.
Southmore Medical Center
in Pasadena, Texas, was the
destination of her arrival.
The welcoming committee
included her mom and dad,
Tom and Beverly Roach.
Grandparents are Mr. and
Mrs. Stanley Tegge of Bee-
viile, Texas, and Mr. and Mrs.
John Roach of Palacios.

club topics
The regular meeting of the
Athena Club was called to
order April 21 by the pre-
sident, Mrs. Blanche Clay-
bourn with fifteen members
present.
The meeting was opened with
tffe Lord’s Prayer followed by
the pledge of allegiance to the
flag,
Mrs. jean Lamont gave a re -
port of the meeting of the Pa-
lacios Library Association
and thanked all those who
helped with refreshments.
Mrs. Dorothy Roussel spoke
of the talent shown by the
students in the Palacios Public
Schools In the Art Exhibit
on display in the Palacios
Library.
A report of the banquet com-
mittee was made by Mrs.
Patricia Raplee.
Mrs. Blanche Claybourngave
a short biographical sketch
of Robert Louis Stevenson and
brought back memories to
those present by reciting a
number of his poems for
children.
Mrs. Louise Crawford intro-
duced as her guest, Mrs. Au-
drey Powell of Victoria, who
entertained her audience with
a number of delightful poems
she had written.
The meeting closed with the
Club Collect.
The town of Blessing is pre-
paring for its 20th Annual Re-
union, to be held Sunday, May
4th, at the Community Center.
Many former residents re-
turn each year for this Bless-
ing Day reunion to enjoy a day
of reminiscing, getting to-
gether with former friends and
neighbors, learning of events
that have taken place the past
year and meeting new addi-
tions to families.
A barbecue beef dinner will
be served beginning at 11:30

McGinty, son of Mr. and Mrs.
A. F. McGinty of Blessing,
has reported for duty at the
Marine Corps Air Station,
Cherry Pont, N.C,
Mrs. Mattie Fetzer and
Mrs Ola Humble of Texar-
kana are visiting Mrs. Mil-
dred Rloux, who came home
Saturday from Matagorda
General Hospital in Bay City
where she underwent major
surgery.
