Cotton producers should give
consideration to early harvest,
stalk destruction and plowing
under debris immediately after
harvest in an effort to reduce
boll weevil and other cotton
insect populations Boll weevils
have been very destructive this
year. Pay particular attention to
the destruction of green or
cracked bolls and other plant
debris left at the ends of rows
following stripper harvest.
These practices force the boll
weevil into starvation before
time to enter winter quarters,
prevent late season buildup of
weevils, bollworms and pink
bollworms and reduce the
number surviving the winter.
The addition of one pint of
methyl parathion or one pint of
a/inphosmethyf (Guthion) to
desiccants or defoliants have
proved effective in reducing
potential overwintering boll-
weevil populations.

Church, Abbott, Texas
Mary
On August 25, our church
reads the Gospel of St. Luke,
Chapter 13, verses 22-30..about
how many people try to get to
heaven. Our Lord mentions that
many will try to enter without
having deserved or done any-
thing to deserve heaven but
claiming to be very holy. This
Gospel tells us that life is not a
bed of rose. Christ experienced
anquish and division in His life.
So it makes sense that the
Christian should experience the
Last month..Martin Luther
King Sr. experienced still more
anquish in his life when his wife
was shot to death. Severaljrars
ago the-Kennedys experience
similar anquish. It happens to
the rich as well as the poor..
The black as well as the white,
the old as well as the young.,
Today second reading of the
Mass encourages us not to grow
despondent or abandon the
struggle because there is life on
the other side. It is vital that we
remember this if we hope to
overcome the upheavals which
we must face daily in life. God
will remember and support ua.
