Mr. Roessler Awarded Degree
At Baylor University's 87th
summer term Commencement
at Waco Hall. Herman E.
Roessler received the Master of
Science Degree. To earn his
degree he was awarded a
Welch Full Scholarship and was
an instructor on the staff at
Baylor University Chemistry
Department.
In 1973 he received his
Bachelor of Science Degree
from Stephen F. Austin State
University with a double major
in Mathematica and Bio-Che-
mistrv.
President Abner McCall gave
the Commencement address
which he noted the sacrifices of
the past generations for the
good of the present. McCall
said. "Because they gave you
the best, you are the tallest,
healthiest, brightest and pro-
bably the best looking genera-
tion to inhabit the land."
McCall challenged graduates
to use "hard work, humility,
hope and faith in mankind to
surmount the obstacles they
encounter."

along the coastline of Michigan

On Thursday they loured
Satili St. Marie. Michigan and
went to the Soo Locks, which is
between the St. Mary's River
and 1 ake Superior, and ships
pass through.
Friday they traveled >“■.
International Bridge to V anada
and enjoyed the day sightsee-
ing and shopping.
On Saturday they traveled by
ferry to Maehinac Island. No
motorized vehicles are allowed
on the island. Only modes of
transportation are by horse and
carriage and bicycle.
During the day they visited
several places including Fort
Maehinac and saw the Grand
Hotel which is the social center
of the island and was built in
1887. It has the longest porch in
the world. All through the
island flowers were in bloom
and all the paths are lined with
trees.
Sunday was spent touring the
Upper and Lower Tahquame-
non Falls and they enjoyed
walking through the woods
filled with all types of trees and
ferns covered the ground
around the trees.
Sunday. Monday and Tues-
day Mary Frances stayed at the
Ramada Inn in Sault St. Marie.
Michigan, which was opened a
year ago in June. She spent
Monday and Tuesday enjoying
the sights of Sault St. Marie,
Michigan and saw several ships
pass through the Soo Locks.
On Wednesday she and
Vincent took the scenic coastal
route along Lake Michigan
down to Traverse City. Along
the way they saw the Catholic
Shrine at Indian River, Michi-
gan. The cross is from one
California redwood tree 55 feet
high and 22 feet wide. Also
there is the statue of ‘ 'Our Lady
of the Highway". At the
entrance to the shrine are
miniature shrines of St. An-
thony. St. Peregrine and St.

August 18th and was met at
DFW airport by tier Dad.

Receive Awards
Degrees were awarded to %
seniors and 120 graduate
students at Tarleton State
University graduation exercises
held in Wisdom Gymnasium on
the TSU campus August 15.
Dr. James H. Stewart. Jr.,
president of Texas Eastern
University at Tyler, was com-
mencement speaker. Dr. Ste-
wart attended Tarleton when
the institution was a junior
college, and was appointed
president of the Tyler college in
August, 1972.
August graduates at Tarleton
included: Bobby Ray Brock and
Paula Coody Brock, who both
received their Master of Edu-
cation in Educational Adminis-
tration.

Sunday, August 22.
Approximately 27 guests
were present to help her
celebrate the occasion. Refresh-
ments of cake and ice cream
were served in the afternoon.

Malone and granddaughter of
Mr. and Mrs. George Soukup
and Mr. and Mrs. Harrison

Mrs. Mary Haidusek is recuperating at her home after having
extensive surgery. She is doing very well. Recent visitors at her
home were Mr. and Mrs. Claude T. Howard and Claudia of
Longview. Mr. and Mrs. James Scott of San Antonio. Mr. and Mrs.
Alois D. Haidusek of Ft. Worth, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Reed and
daughters of El Paso. Also Sister Irene Marie Haidusek of West
Independent School District and Sister Mary Martin Haidusek of
Our Lady of the Lake University of San Antonio were present.
Visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Joe Gaidusek of West over the last
weekend were Mrs. Robert Lillard Sr. of Waco, Mrs. Bernard L.
Gaidusek of Lacy-Lakeview, and Mrs. Willetta Houston, also of
Waco.
Mr. Charlie Prasifka from Norwalk, California is visiting his
mother, Mrs. Vincie Prasifka at West Rest Haven, with his
brothers, sisters and other relatives and friends.
Mr. and Mrs. Joe R. Stanislav and Kim, Mrs. Dorothy Jones, all
of Waco, Mr. and Mrs. V.J. Pratka and Mrs. Albina Kallus all
were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Dan Pratka and girls on
Sunday, August 22nd.
Recent visitors in the home of Mrs. Ann Polansky from Austria
were: Rev. Father Walter Wimer, Rev. Father Joseph Wimer,
their mother Mrs. Mary Wimer, and also their friends, Mr. and
Mrs. C.C. Wright, Mr. and Mrs. Clif Wright, and Mr. and Mrs.
Johnie Flaherty, all of Dallas; Mr. and Mrs. Roy Harris and boys of
Killeen, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Snider of Tours, and Mr. and Mrs. Ray
Polansky of Waco.
They enjoyed barbecued turkey and Nemecek sausage with all
the trimmings.
Sunday dinner guests in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Henry
Holecek and family were Mr. and Mrs. David Holecek of Waco and
Mr and Mrs. Tommy Holecek of West. In the afternoon, Mr. and
Mrs. Harry Lee Hykel, Carla and Julie, also visited.

Seventeen youths met Tues-
day. August 17, 1976 in the
Tours School to form a 4-H Club
and decided to name it the
Tours 4-H Club. All youths,
ages 9 to 19 who are interested
in working in the 4-H are
welcome to join.
Carol Schroeder presided
until Mark Roessler was elected
president. Clara Roessler was
presiding secretary for the
meeting.
Officers were elected as
follows: Mark Roessler-Presi-
dent; Chris Peevcy-Vice Presi-
dent; Daniel Uptmor-Secretary;
Clara Roessler-Treasurer;
Frances Roessler-Council Dele-
gate; and Janet Otto and Brian
Peevey-Recreation Leaders.

Meetings will be on the
fourth Tuesday of each month
at 7:30 p.m. in Tours School.
The programs were decided
for the monthly meetings.

Southwest Texas State Univer-
sity Saturday, August 14.
The keynote commencement
address was delivered by Texas
Secretary of State Mark White,
Jr.
Degrees were conferred by
SWT President Lee H. Smith.

visited for a short time Tuesday
