This week has been a
busy one here at the post,
with a lot of things going
on.
A District meeting
in Victoria will be held
Saturday, July 23 from
9 a.m. until 12 noon for
Program.
The TVC oversees the
distribution of funds for
veterans assistance whose
main source of income is
from the Texas Lottery
Commissions’ Veterans
Scratch Off Tickets.

should not receive con-
tinued funding for the
Veterans Assistance
This fund was created
with the sole purpose of
assisting veterans state-

252-8387 for a list of enti-
ties funded for assistance
to vets.
Things right here at the
post are going great. We
are kicking off a drive to
sell bricks again so that
we may expand our walk-
way at the memorial in
the park.
I know some of you have
paid for a brick and have
been waiting a while but
we to have 100 bricks sold
before we can place an
order. This should hap-

I know that there are
many young vets out
there who would like to
get one of these bricks as
well as some of the older
ones. The forms will be
available at the post, as
well as several other plac-
es which I will announce

The Canteen at the post
has been doing really well
on its lunches and Manny
has been doing a really
great job of putting out
some fine food.
One a last note, this
Saturday, the post will
host a dance featuring
one of our own vets with
his band of veterans.

Fuerza Musical from 9
a.m. until 1, and sup-
port the post at the same
time.

It’s a girl!
Meagen and Jake
Gumm of Goliad announce
the birth of their daugh-
ter, Liv Rea on Thursday,
May 12, 2011, at Detar
Hospital in Victoria.
Liv weighed 7 lbs., 3
oz. and was 18 1/2 inches
long.
She was welcomed
home by her big brother,
Knox.

Tivoli members attend DKG convention
Three members of the
Mu Psi chapter of the Delta
Kappa Gamma Society
attended the Texas State
Organization 82nd con-
vention in McAllen, from
June 23-25.
President Phyllis Neves,
first Vice-President Kathy
Gyllenband, and member
Delores Vela represented
Mu Psi which is the new-
est Texas State chapter to
be chartered.
The three women went
to several workshops and
business meeting, as well
as luncheons and ban-
quets, while they were in
McAllen. Although Mu
Psi was just chartered
this past April, the Tivoli-
based chapter already
earned a Tudor Rose
Award for membership at
the convention.
We are grateful to
our many friends and
relatives for the kindness
and sympathy shown
during our recent sorrow,
the loss of our loved
one, Manuel Lopez Jr.
Since it is impossible
to thank each of you
personally, we are taking
this means of expressing
our appreciation for the
flowers, ramp, donations
and food. Special thanks
to the father for the mass.

McLain
Pastor David
McLain passed away
peacefully July 7, 2011
at age 70 to meet his
Lord and Savior and
a host of family and
friends.
David was born
May 28, 1941 in Corpus
Christi.
He pastored First
Assembly of God
Church in Refugio,
Texas for 17 1/2
years. He was an
accomplished guitar
player and singer. He
loved to preach, and
his favorite book of the
Bible was John. He will
always be remembered
for his generosity and
strong faith in the
Lord.
He is survived by
his wife of 48 years,
Bonnie; his son, James
McLain of Refugio;
sister, Martha Edwards
of Corpus Christi; and
many family members
and friends.
He is preceded in
death by his father,
Thomas Roy McLain;
mother, Edna Mae;
and 2 brothers, Wayne
McLain and Jack
McLain; sister, Vera
Mae Edwards.
Pallbearers are
Donnie Miller, Peter
Mireles, James Bowen,
James McLain, Glenn
Lynch, and Bill
Williams.
Visitation was at at
Moore Funeral Home
in Refugio Friday, July

Firova, Sr., 79, died
Monday, July 11, 2011.
He was a cook and vet-
eran of the U.S. Army,
having served in Korea.
He was born in Refugio
March 28,1932 to Cesario
and Natividad Rodriguez
Firova.
He is preceded in death
by his parents; daughter,
Diana Firova Segura;
sisters, Esperanza Pena,
Eliva Firova, Celestina
Lara, and Kate Firova;
brothers, Alfredo Firova,
Henry “Buddy” Firova,
and Juan Firova.
Survivors include
his wife, Mamie Firova
of Refugio; four daugh-
ters and their husbands,

Anne McDonnel.
Annette is preceded
in death by her sister,
Norma McDonnel; and
brothers Elton McDonnel,
Martin McDonnel and
Billy McDonnel.
Survivors include her
husband, Dennis Woods
of Woodsboro; sons, Bill
Williams Jr. and Shawn
M. Williams, both of
Woodsboro; stepson, Mark
A. Woods of Houston and
daughters, Melanie A.
