Old Glory News
"V T TTind, wind, wind, that’s all we
\/\/ have had this week. I believe
T V the weatherman got his months
mixed up. April was supposed to bring
showers. There were a few clouds around,
some folks to the West and to the North got
a little rain and lots of hail. It did not get
this far. Still wishing and praying.
It’s hard to believe this year is moving
by so fast. Here we are n May, month num-
ber five already. When we get to May, the
first thing we think of is the
end of school, and it will be
here soon.
Guess we need to take
a look at May and some of
the events coming up so we
can mark our calendars.
Sunday, May 4, the
Old Glory Lodge meeting
at the Lodge Hall begin-
ning at 4 P M. The men are
honoring the ladies for the
meal :n honor of Mother’s
Day. What a treat????
Thursday, May 8, there
will be a Senior Citizens dance at the Old
Glory Community Center from 7PM until
10 PM with a live band and snacks will be
served. You do not have to be a Senior Citi-
zen to attend. Everyone is welcome.
Sunday, May 11, is Mother’s Day, a spe-
cial day for a special person. Don’t forget.
Wednesday, May 14, the Mult. County
Retired Teachers and School Personnel will
be meeting at the Church of Christ in Haw-
ley at 11:30 A M for their luncheon and
meeting. This will be the last meeting until
September and all members are urged to be
present and bring in a new member.
The Hobby Club will be gathering in
Sagerton for member’s day out.
The Old Glory Monthly Musical will
be on Saturday, May 24 with the concession
stand opening at 5:30 P M and the program
will follow.
Several folks from this community at-
tended the funeral services for Steve Alex-
ander in Rule on Tuesday afternoon.

Verlene Corzine and I were among the
large crowd that attended the Big Country
Electric Coop annual meeting held at the
Roby School on Thursday evening. A Bar B
Que meal was served before the meeting for
everyone to enjoy.
On Monday, Mittie Dunham went to
Lubbock for a doctor’s visit, and later she
met her grandson, Colton Hill, for lunch
and a nice visit. On her way home, she
stopped in Jayton at the Care Home for a
nice visit with Billie Goff. On Friday eve-
ning she and Pide went to Bo and Whiz
Creighton for a visit and some practicing
with their instruments. They played at the
musical on Saturday evening.
Following church services on Sun-
day, Pide and Mittie met Johnny and Doris
Pittcock, Bo and Whiz Creighton, Isabell
Mrazek, and Steve Duncan for lunch in
Aspermont.
I received an e-mail from my grand-
daughter and family, Sara and J G Heiden-
heimer, Zachary and Ryan, about them
getting tickets to join in on the Easter Egg
Roll on the White House lawn on Easter
Monday. She stated they all enjoyed it very
much.
What a treat and experience to remember
forever. They live in Severn, Maryland.
A donation was made to the Old Glory
Community Center Flag Fund by John and
Celinda Allison of Gardendale in memory
of Herbert Teichelman.
I spoke with Phyllis Letz yesterday and
she told of events their grandchildren were
in this week. Deanne Conner ran in area
track meet but she did not place. Madisyn
Letz and her baseball team of Stamford won
two games in Area and will be competing
for Regional in Santa Anna this week. Cale
and Rylan Letz of Stamford participated in
rifle competition in Brownwood on Satur-
day. Phyllis has not been feeling well so she
did not get to attend their events.
Dale and Carm Letz were in Haskell
on Saturday where they attended the birth-
day party for granddaughter, Laynee New
on her second birthday held at the East
Yesteryears
Side Baptist Church. Enjoying the exciting
afternoon with them were Laynee’s parents,
Micah and Lacey New, her sister, Darbee
all of Abilene, Mike and Teresa New, Frank
and Roberta Jenkins, Linda Flippin, Lisa
Teague and granddaughter and Shawn all of
Haskell, also J. J. New, Avery and Zach of
Abilene. Happy Birthday, Laynee.
Approximately fifty folks attended our
monthly musical on Saturday evening at the
Old Glory Community Center. Our atten-
dance was down, I suppose the weather man
had them scared off, as he kept saying there
would be storms in the area.
No one likes to get out if a storm is brew-
ing, but nothing happened around here. We
did have a great musical with Glory Bound
Group and several more great bands. We
truly appreciate all the musicians coming so
far to play for our musical.
Thanks to everyone that supported our
concession stand and to Margie Casey and
Whiz Creighton for the pies. We enjoy all
of you that come to our monthly musical.
Winning the door prizes was Bobby Hunt
from Roby and Linda Rogers of Seymour.
See you all next month.
Thought for the week: “This is a great
day to be positive, purposeful and filled with
enthusiasm for all you can do. Feel all the
potential greatness brings it to life in your
own special way.”
Happy Birthday Wishes go to Barbara
Cox, Blain Hight, Shelby Martin, Pastor
Anna Robbins, John Glenwinkle, Sabrina
Pippen, Lisa Olson, Diane Jouett, Barbara
Sherrod, Doug Vahlenkamp, Jami Wilde,
Tom Lee Rhoads, Emmalee Phemister, John
Jouett, Norma Jean Talley, Don Pyron, Vick-
ie Smedley, David Sikes, Madison Mills,
Will Meier, Pat Mathis, Leisa Morrow, Ann
Spitzer, Dr. Norman Dozier, and Lavern
Rash, Susan Kittley, Jerry Hahn, Kortney
Smith, and Vanessa Lehrmann. We wish
you many more.
Anniversary greetings go to Doug and
Debbie Vahlenkamp, and John and Celinda
Allison. Have a great day.
Seniors have selected
a nice assortment of
gifts for those who
would like to honor
that special Senior.
