draws near, the city officials
of Taft would like to remind
the public of the ordinance in
, effect in this city which pro-
hibits the discharge ot fire-
I works within the city limits of
| Taft. The ordinance was pass-
ed anil approved on the 5th
: day of Tune, 1946, and is still
in effect.
For the benefit of the public,
i the ordinance is reprinted be-
j low:
“An ordinance prohibiting the
: discharge of fireworks, fire
j crackers. Pom1" candies, sky-
1 rochet?, or other explosives of a
.similar character within the city
limits of the Town of Taft; pro-
tiding penalties for violations.
“Be it ordained by the City
Commission of the City of Taft,
Texas:
“Section 1. That from and af-
ter the date of the passage of
this ordinance, it shall be un-
lawful for any person or per-
sons to set fire to, ignite, dis-
charge. or explode in any way
whatsoever any Roman candle,
skyrocket, firecracker, pinwheel,
I nigger chaser, firecracker, cap
pistol, exploding cane, or any
other fireworks of any character
whatsoever regardless of what
name they may be known by,
within the city limits of the
Town of Taft. Texas.
“Section 2. Any person or per-
sons violating the provisions of
this ordinance by discharging,
igniting, exploding or firing any
of said fireworks hereinbefore
mentioned, shall be guilty of a
misdemeanor and upon convic-
tion thereof shall be fined not
less than five dollars ($5.00) nor
more than One Hundred Dollars
($1.00.00), and the explosion of
each and every one of said fire-
works, roman candles, skyrock-
ets, etc., shall constitute a sepa-
rate and distinct offense.

A Candle Lighting Service
and Christmas Pageant will be
presented in the First Presby-
terian Church of Taft on
Wednesday evening, Decem-
ber 21, at 7:30 p. m.
This program was given
three years ago, and there
have been many requests that
it be repeated. It is hoped
that members of other
churches and Iriends in the
community will unite in this
celebration of the birth of the
Christ Child in Bethlehem.

citizenship and homes. Recently,
the Taft High School Band and
the Greyhound football team
have brought fame anti credit to
this community. At! of the civic
