A hospital lor Taft again 51

of all the service clubs and
citizens of this area and to re-
new attempts to carry through
this very worthwhile project.
Thf tentative plan is for a
$75,000 sixteen-bed. non-profit,
fully equipped hospital to tie fi-

| PROPOSED HOSPITAL—Above is the architect’s sketch of the 875,000 hospital
that is proposed for Taft, and for- which the Taft Kiwanis Club is urging coordi
nation of efforts of the service clubs and citizens of this area to carry through
this worthwhile project, the need of a hospital for Taft; Portland and Gregory
people being one of the greatest needs of the times. Public interest is high.
spread rapidly throughout the community that two of
the fine young men of Taft had lost their lives in the
flaming crash of a light airplane 15 miles northeast of
here, just 10 minutes after they had flown the plane
from Worsham Field. They were Lurtis L. Foley, 22,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank L. Foley, and Charles C.
Carroll, 18, a. freshman student at Texas A&I College
and a son of Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Carroll. The two fami-
lies are among the most prominent and highly respect-
ed families of San Patricio County, and long-time resi-
dents of the Taft community. The people of the com-
munity grieved with the grief-stricken parents.

Roy Johnson, proprietor of
John-on's Cafe of Taft, told
R. S. Cook, county chairman
for the .March of Himes drive,
that he will serve a turkey
dinner at his cafe on Thursday,
February 2, from II a. m. to
2 p. m., and that 50 per cent
of the proceeds will be given
to the March of Dimes for
Sail Patricio County to help
raise this countv's quota of
S15,000.00. The price of the
dinner will be SI.00—anti that
is a bargain in itself, when you
consider the kind of turkey
dinner that is always served
at Johnson's Cafe. The diner
may enjoy the dinner at bar-
gain price and have the extra
satisfaction of knowing that
he or she is helping a most
worthy cause. ‘T really be-
lieve in the March of Dimes,”
Roy says, “ami think it is
something all of us should help
as much as we possibly can."
Edroy, with a quota, of $300,
was the first San Patricio

pletion of the March of
Dimes drive. The drive start-

Edroy’s quota was collected by
Saturday, January 21. Mrs.
Floyd Scull was chairman of
the drive in F.droy.

is 83,000.00. County Chairman
R. S. Cook of Taft told The
Tribune this week that, in or-

quota, ill of those who con-
tributed last year will have
