Tl* movie, "The Exoreint", may do some good in
acquainting the United States with a real source of personal
EviB, up until ihia time scoffed at by "Modem " America The
devil lives, the movie says. It would seem though that (his
small point is out-weighed by the numberless and obvious
danger the movie portrays. For instance:
The tremendous phychological impact (fainting,
vomiting, hysteria in the movie houses > could tip the scales
of those already mentally or psychologically upset Lest we
forget, those who gladly performed the .Sharon Tate murders
followed Charles Manser who claimed authority over their
lives by telling them he was Satan
As much as psychologists disagree, people do learn
things from movies and T V. A recent T V program showed
a woman being set on fire alive by her abductors The next
day, newspapers across the United States, reported many
instances of women being burned alive
Uangeruus also is the probability that, this movie will
promote an unhealthy interest in demonic forces 'Satan
worshippers, witches covens and the like > and try to pass off
as Spiritual immaturity and ignorance
In a sense, the movie doesn’t go far enough. Demonic
forces move furniture, scare the daylights out of everyone,
and cause the possessed child to do some bizarre things, but
the movie doesn't show other effects of this source of per-
sonal Evil Greed, envy, lust for power, selfishness and
hatred, are all part of the devil at work, too
The effects of these demonic forces are poverty, hunger
and malnutrition, and sickness tc name a few How nice it
would be to Exorcise those demons Our country now. like the
Gcreswnedemoniac (Mark 5: M3) then, has its "Legion ’ of
unclean spirits with it.
Unfortunately, we are still in the condition of the
demoniac BEFORE he met Jesus Unable to be subdued,
shouting in pain, and bruising ourselves on the rocks ex-
perience.
Most dangerous of all is the ‘‘Devil made me do it’’
mentality - Americans run from any persona) moral
responsibility. We do what the group does, our excuse is that,
“everyone is doing it”, anyone who disagrees with the group
is “immature” or has a “hang-up”. How we love what the
group does, no matter what it is How far we have crime
from what Paul urges us to do in Philippians 4 8: "Whatever
is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just whatever is
pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is gracious, if there is any
excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about
these tliii gs ”

The response to forming a
community blood bank in Taft
has exceeded the promoters*
expectations The original date
of February 21 has been
completely filled and a second
date of March 6 has been set
up It is hoped that over too
donors will be received on
these two days to more than
fulfill the requirement of 75 to
form a community blood bank
Simply, the plan requires
each individual taking part in
the program to give blood once
each two years and in return if
they are ever in need of
Mood for themselves or their
immediate family it will be
furnished without charge by
the blood bank
A ready supply of blood sure
comes in handy at times. Quite
a few years ago I had back
surgery and required some
blood There was no blood bank
to call upon at that time but a
might handy blood donor list
was available and before too
long I had a fresh supply of
Ruddy Wests'* type “O” blood
Ruddy's fi’4" frame probably
didn t miss the pint but it filled
an important need of mine
1 was told.
So, it would behoove each
and every family in Taft to
take advantage of the op
portunity to protect not only
their own family but their
friends as well with the giving
of a pint of Mood. Advance
registration is needed so that
donors can be scheduled. A call
— to Mrs. W H Dixon will get
you a reservation.
I think that it is a real good
idea, especially since Ikey is
going to make the contribution
of blood for our family

A regulation stales that
" while the day care center is
in operation, persons engaged
in activities unrelated to day
care shall not use any part of
the day care facility actually
used by the children "
Presumably, this means that
Mrs Johnson’s son Wayne,
who is stationed with the Air
Force in Wyoming hut arrived
in Taft on leave yesterday, can
not use either of the Johnsons'
two bathrooms if 11 or more
children are in attendance on
any given day
He can't because the
regulation ..ays that there shall
be one bathroom tor each ten
children and fraction thereof
Yesterday there- were only
seven children in school, so
there was no problem
There is a law that states
that “the State Department of
Public Welfare shall be given
the right and the authority to
promulgate reasonable rules
and regulations governing the
granting of licenses to the
institutions and facilities
coming within the purview of
this Act...”
The key word there seems to
be "reasonable " Perhaps
someone somewhere up the
line will find a way to allow
Mrs Johnson to be issued a
license
If some relief is indeed
found, the petitions now cir-
culating m Taft this week
might have something to do
with it In less than 24 hours,
more than 300 people signed
According to some of the
signers, the issue is not the
Happy Time Play School itself
but rather the idea of what
some call the "steady erosion
of individual rights, and the
“penchant for the government
— any government to tell us
more and more how to run our
lives."
Some of the parents w ho take
their children to Mrs John,
son s home while they work,
think that no one should fie able
to tell them where to take their
child In short, too much
government control
If the Happy Time I "la v
School were a recipient of
government funds. they
maintain, then the government
certainly has the right to
regulate such a facility
In effect. Mrs Johnson is a
baby sifter She is not gelling
rich with her school, but she
didn't intend to She says the*
she likes to work with children,
and the 12 16 she secs on a
semi regular basis are as
much a hobby of love as
anything else
they make field trips every
Fridas to places the parents
either would not think of, or
don't have the time for In
recent weeks, they have gone
to a puppet show, visited
Channel 3 studios in Corpus
Christi. and seen a con-
venience food stand from the
inside of the counter and the
kitchen
Since August 1973, when she
started taking care of other
people's children, she has
cleared about $ loo per month
not a quick way to make
money
That little money for the
work entailed in caring for
anywhere from six to sixteen
three to five-year-olds has to be
for love.
