Play-Off Game
The Van Vandals were elim-
inated from the state Class A
basketball tournament Thurs-
day by Brenham, 56 to 35.
Brenham jumped ahead early
in the game, and at the end
of the first quarter held a 17
to 7 lead. The Vandals closed
the gap to 30 to 25 by the half,
but flT£ Brenham team began
to pull away in the third per-
iod. scoring 16 points to only
4 for the Vandals. Lange with
17 and Schroeder with 15 were
high scorers for Brenham. J.
Mayo s?ored ten points to lead
the Vandals.

Winnsboro Soldier
Killed in Korea
A 22-year-old Winnsboro sol-
dier has been killed in action
in Korea, a Defense Denart-
ment telegram received Thurs-
day by his father reported.
Cpl. Billie Don Anderson, son
-f Thomas J. Anderson of
Winnsboro, was killen Feb. 13.
Cpl. Anderson was a 1948
Winnsboro Hitt It School gradu-
ate and a member of the
basketball teem. He volunteered
fer army service in 1949 and un-
derwent basic training at Fort
! Lewis, Wash.
Cpl Anderson is survived by
j his father, two brothers. Jim
Ben and Kern Anderson, both
of Winnsboro; and five sisters.
: Mrs. Q. B. Morris and Mrs.
Richard Bass, both of Winns-
boro; Mrs. Buck Ponder of Dal-
las, Mrs. Les Huhn of Los
Angeles, Calif., and Mrs. O.
M. Ray of Austin.
