18-year-old son of M. Klare, a
farmer residing about six miles
above here, was thrown from
his horse into a barbed wire
fence and seriously injured. One
ear was nearly cut off. The at-
tending physician says he will
recover and that the ear can be
saved.

probability the contracts for new
motive power on the system

of several locomotive works have
offered bids for supplying the
road with eight new 10-wheel
passenger engines./suitable for
both passenger and freight ser-
vice. After the contract is made i

Eck May’s friends sprung a
surprise on him last; Wednesday

Next Sunday the Shiner base
ball team will visit our city to
cross bats with Mac’s Colts ;
they will be accompanied by a
carload of rooters and a brass
band.
An interesting game is antici-
pated and everybody who can

At a meeting some short time

Nixon, Mrs. C. T. Nash was
elected principal of the schools
for the coming session. Mrs.
Nash is a lady who s well qual-
ified in every respect to fill the
responsiable position to which
she has been elected and we feel
from our knowledge of Mrs.
Nash’s past record as principal

High Schools she will give com-
plete satisfaction an J the board
could make no better choice.
Miss Lucile Edgar of Cuero
was elected as one of the teach-
ts for the coming session.
Miss Dixie Kilpatrick, sister
of Mrs. C. T. Nash, who until
recently made her home at Yoa-
kum but will in a short while
ioin her sister here das had the
honor bestowed upon her of a
scholarship to the Sam Houston
Normal at Huntsville by Gov.
Campbell. Miss Dixie is a bright,
studious young lady and her
appointment of a scholarship in
this well known institution of
learning is very fitly made. She
finished in the Yoakum High
Schools last sessior and has a
large number of friends there
who will be glad to learn of her
good fortune.

Miss Ida Cocke returned Sat-
urday from Yoakum where she
has been visiting friends and
relatives. During the early sum-
mer she attended the Normal at
Halletsville.She was accompanied
ome by Miss Grace King, a

Visited Charles Neumann.
Last Thursday night while our
; friend, Charles Neumann, was
enjoying a good, light’s rest,
some slick thief entered his room
j and taking Charlie’s trousers into
j the dining room, made a close
investigation as to what could
lie f o u n cl. Mr. Neumann’s
pocketknife, keys and several
other items including his pocket-
book were found nicely piled on
the dining table, and the trousers
lying on the door.
Mr. Neumann stated to The
j Times man that he felc sorry for
! the thief as the amount in cash
! he got was only two dollars and
! that wasn’t worth his trouble. If
| Mr. Thief don’t look out he may
! receive a load of buckshot some
j night in place of a dollar or two.
