Talk is cheap and yet the world
is moved by talk.
The next big event on the cal-
endar is the democratic primary.
The home trusts are being over-
looked by our officers and our
grand juries.
The coming home of William
Jennings Bryan will be the nation-
al event of 1906.
The governor’s race is boiling
in the middle now, and Campbell
is right in the same.
In just twelve days more Tom
Campbell will be declared the
choice of the people for governor
of Texas.
Candidates are nearing the
crisis, and we sympathize with the
hindmost man who is sometime*
the beai man for the office.
Let’s reorganize the Board ol
Trade and help push Yoakum tc
the front. It’s already the first
city of this section, but it can b<
be made a much better town.
We all boast that Texas is the
biggest state in the Union and the
richest in resources, but when we
think and consider deeply we find
she’s “busted.” The Texas trea-
sury is as empty as a gourd.
After reading last Sunday’s
issue of The Times you should
send it to yonr friend in the dis-
tance; or better yet, call at the
office and send it to yonr friend or
relative for six months or a year.
The editor who can please every
one is not sailed for this earth, bat
is entitled to wings. Haman na-
ture is so constituted that some ol
our reader? would like to have us
feed them on scandal; some would
like to have ns tell the unvarnished
trutn about them, while others
would kill us if we did. It is a
.comforting thought to the editor
to know that the Lord Himself did
not please every one while on earth.
We labor bard to entertain and
please onr subscribers bat that we
should occasionally fail is to be
expected, but you will always find
ps willing to be forgiven.

The women of this town have
labored earnestly and long in an
endeavor to maintain truth and
sobriety in the home, teaching
their sons and daughters that these;
are cardinal virtues, and are to be
prized far greater than rubies.
They have recognized the fact that
home-life is the toundation of all
life, and that municipal, state and
national existence is pure only a9
the home-life is pure. The women
of this city have been the silent
force, the under-current, that has
been so effective through the
years, the result of which has
meant the ushering in of social
conditions that are extremely
wholesome.
Mrs C P Johnson of ^iatonia
returned home yesterday after a
pleasant visit in the city, the guest
of Mrs Ida Herder.

Letter To
D. B^CALN & CO.
Yoakum, Texas.
Pear Sir—You i a good
many things by the gallon. Po
ing a decent man, you giv-a ftdl
measure.
You know what wc rrn ar. ; m
know that short weight urd :-hci i
measure are common amcj.g—
well we hope there are no snort
measures and weights in jgui
town.
There are though. Ribbons
and laces and trimmings, sold hy
the “dozen,’' meaeuro nine oi
ten yards. There is no com-
plaint, i*cause “they all do it”
You have the same plague in
your goods—nearly everything,
canned or bottleu, cheats in the
quantity. Almost nobody gives
full weight in a fictory package i
We are one of the almost no
bodies, We sell paint, by the
gallon, to paint your house; and
our gallon is just the same size
as yours that you measue vineg ir
with—231 cubic inches.
Gcod paint too—Devoe lead
and-zinc—takes fewer gaik-m
than mixed paint and wears t*Aic(
aa long as lead-and-oil
You own a house. That’s
why we are writing to you.
Yours Truki*

it you want to he up to the moment
ar.d be classed as a first class business
man. yon should have your books SO
systemized that you vrill know how you
stand at a glance, and at the close of
the year can get out an intelligent
statement of your business. This can-
not be done unless you start right and
keep an accurate record of your busi-
ness (by systemized accounts.) Many
a ousiness man has failed simply be-
cause he neglected to keep a record of
his business and could not tell where
he stood. See
A. M. MYLiUS.
