Miss Sandra Kay Clark
became the bride of Richard
Allen Hedges in a double-
ring ceremony at 7 p.m.
Saturday in the First Christ-
ian Church of Weslaco. The
Rev. Wade Hampton, pastor
performed the rites.
The bride is the daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Clark

Arrangements of white
gladioli and mums were used
at the altar. Family
pews were marked with white
satin bows.
Mrs. E. V. Lyons of Mer-
cedes, organist, played trad-
itional wedding music and
accompained Leslie Barnes
of Mercedes, who sang “The
Wedding Prayer.”
The bride was given in
marriage by her father. Her
street length dress of white
silk organza was worn with
a short jacket of Alencon
lace. Her only jewelry was
a strand of pearls, a gift
from the bridegroom.
A down of pearls held
the bride’s veil of illusion.
She carried a prayer book
centered with a white orchid
and surrounded by feathered
white carnations._

Mrs. Warren Clark of
Mercedes, sister-in-law of
the bride, was matron of
honor. Her dress was of light
blue brocade taffeta, styled
with a round neckline and
three - quarter length
sleeves. Her headpiece was
a braided crown of matching
material with a short net
veil. She carried a bouquet
of blue mums with stream-
ers.
Miss Frances Shannon of
Mercedes was bridesmaid.
Her costume and bouquet
were identical to that of the
matron of honor.
Leroy Veland of Weslaco
was best man. Warren Clark
of Mercedes, brother of the
bride, served as grooms-
man.
The ushers were William
Birch and Terry Clark, both
of Weslaco.
Mrs. Clark chose a brown
silk dress with beige gloves
and accessories for her
daughter’s wedding. The
bridegroom’s mother wore a
blue silk shantung sheath
with jacket and white acces-
sories. Both mothers wore
corsages of pink sweetheart
roses.
A reception followed in the
fellowship hall of the church.
The bridal couple, their par-
ents and attendants greeted
the guests.
The bride’s table was cov-
ered with a lace cloth. The
three-tiered wedding cake
was white, decorated with
blue net and pale pink spun
sugar roses. Three wedding
bells topped the confection.
A crystal punch bowl and the
bride’s bouquet completed
the table appointments.
Miss Sylvia Basinger pre-
sided at the brides book,
which was placed on a table
covered with a hand made
cutwork cloth with a large
white wedding bell as dec-
oration.
Mrs. J. V. Adams of Mer-
cedes served the cake. Mrs.
Bill Basinger of Mercedes
presided at the punch bowl.
Other members of the
house party included Mrs.
Bill Taylor of Weslaco, Mrs.
Jack Moore, and Miss Kay
Mulkey of Mercedes.
When the couple left on a
wedding trip, the bride was
wearing a pale yellow knit
suit and matching ac-
cessories. Her corsage was
the orchid from her bouquet.
After a short trip, the
couple will make their home
in Mercedes,where the bride

FEATURE SPEAKER
AT SERVICE GUILD
Mrs. Victor Brown was
the featured speaker at the
Wesleyan Service Guild of
the First Methodist Church
which met in the home of
Mrs. R. T. White in Wes-
laco Thursday evening.
Her subject,* “Shall We
Unite”, was an informative
talk on the purposes of the
proposed United Church to be
made up of the Protestant
Episcopal Church, United
Presbyterian Church of the
U. S. A., United Church of
Chirst and the Methodist
Church. The four churches
make up a total of 20 bil-
lion members with the Meth-
odist Church comprising one
half of that number.
Mrs. Brown discussed the
beliefs, the similarities of
the four groups, and ended
her discussion by asking
each Guild member to evalu-
ate the questions asked and
to try to find an answer to
“What can we do now?”
Mrs. Chas. Armstrong,
president, conducted the
business. Mrs. White led
the prayer.
Plans were made for the
McAllen District Meeting to
be held in Kingsville Sunday
and the District Spiritual
Life Retreat to be held at
Harmony Hill Oct. 12-13.
Since only 36 people can be
given overnight accoma-
dations, it is believed the
Mercedes members will not
be housed at Harmony Hill
overnight.
The next meeting of the
Guild will be a covered dish
supper in the home of Mrs.
Bill Kramer Thursday, Oct.
17, at 7:00 p.m. Mrs. C. L.
Curtis will conduct a United
Nations Program and it is
hoped the food will take on
an international flavor.
Mrs. White served re-
freshments to Mesdames
Armstrong, Dewey Acker,
Brown, Emma Cunningham,
C. L. Curtis, Kramer, John
Urquhart, Howard Wallace
and Misses Alma Whatley
and Loretta Temple. Guests
were Mrs. David Paul and
Mrs. J. S. Temple.
will attend school. The
bridegroom is associated
with KRGV-TV in Weslaco.
WSCS Circle Holds
Meeting Sept. 10
The Josephine McClendon
Circle of the Woman's Soc-
iety of Christian Service met
Sept. 10 at the home of Mrs.
Henry D. Lauderdale. Mrs.
J. C, Deyo gave the pro-
gram entitled “Recruitment,
a Concern of the Whole
Church.”
Refreshments were ser-
ved to Mesdames Julis Ur-
quhart, Deyo, C. O. Dahl,
Edith Johnston, Sadie Johns-
ton, Jim Riley, Paul Shot-
well and H. L. Tidmore.
The next general meeting
will be in the home of Mrs.
J. C. Deyo Oct. 1 and the
next circle meet will be in
the home of Mrs. Sadie John-
ston Oct. 8.
ALETHEAN STUDY
CLUB HOLDS MEET
The Alethean Study Club
held the first meeting of the
year-Monday evening with a
dinner at the El Sombrero.
Mrs. J. L. Long, presiding
in the absence of the pres-
ident, Mrs. J. E. Wilder,
welcomed two new members,
Mrs. Norma Smith and Mrs.
E. L. Park, and a guest,
Mrs. Walter Reeves of Jack-
sonville, Tex.
During the business meet-
ing Mrs. Ed. Perry gave a
report for the Budget Com-
mittee; Mrs. Woody Tullis
reported for the Library
Board on the bazaar to be
held in December.

GOLDEN AGE CLUB
The Golden Age Club was
entertained in the home of
Mrs. J. C. Deyo Friday with
Mrs. O. J. Schaeffer assist-
ing with hostess duties.
Mrs. Martha Pemelton
presided at the meeting and
Mrs. J. S. Temple served as
secretary.
Members and guests were
seated at the dining table
for refreshments. The table
was centered with an ar-
rangement of summer
flowers.
Members attending were
Mesdames Pemelton, Tem-
ple, Nora Seals, Dora Maet-
tig, Maud Rouse, Martha
Law, Jim Bazar and Miss
Janie Bazar. Guests were
Mrs. E. W. Archer, mother
of Mrs. Deyo, and Mrs.
Emma Cunningham.
The next meeting will be in
the home of Mrs. Schaeffer
with Mrs. Charles Green-
wood assisting in hostess
duties.
Presbyterians
To Hold Rally Day
The First Presbyterian
Church will hold a rally
day Sunday for promotion
of children in Sunday Church
School. This will take place
during Sunday school hours
beginning at 9:30 a.m.
The program will include a
play presented by the Youth
Fellowship entitled “From
the Depths of God’s Love.”
Outgoing and incoming
teachers will also be re-
cognized during morning
worship service. The out-
going teachers are Mrs.
Jerry Harville, Mrs. Bob
Frix and Krik Schwarz. The
incoming teachers are Mr.
and Mrs. Ned Swarner, Miss
Melba Wright, Harold Stuart,
Mrs. C. J. Hoverson and
Mrs. W. B. Lauder.
Mrs. Ellen Bartnesky will
serve as superintendent of
Sunday Church School.
Mrs. C. O. Dale visited
in the home of the Rev.
and Mrs, Wayne Smith of
Taft the past weekend.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Mark-
ham and children, Paul and
Karen, of Houston are visit-
ing in the homes of their
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gil-
son Knapp and Mrs. Frank
Markham.

Business Meeting
The Gamma Lambda
Chapter of Epsilon Sigma
Alpha International Sorority
held a regular business
meeting Monday evening with
Mrs. Luther McDonald as
hostess.
The meeting was called
to order with the opening
ritual, by Mrs. Donald An-
derson, chairman pro-tem,
in the absence of the pres-
ident and vice president.
Correspondence was read
from International Council,
Stc-ie Council, and an
invitation from District III
from the Iota Kappa Chapter,
to attend the meeting in
McAllen Oct. 13. Plans were
discussed by the members
to attend.
Mrs. Albert Brandt, wel-
fare chairman, reported 32
hours of work had been com-
pleted in the office of the
San Juan T. B. Center.

will be a Jewel Pin Cere-
mony Oct. 7. For pledges,
Mrs. E. V. Mitchell and
Mrs. Wayburn Dalton, in the
home of Mrs. Glenn Hender-
son.
