Mayor Proclaims
Thursday, Nov. 29,
As Thanksgiving
Two of the state’s most power-
ful Class A football teams are col-
liding at It ice Bird StiLiuui iu El
Curnpo this t Thursday) after-
noon for bi-district honors.
They are the Industrial Consoli-
dated Cobras of Vanderbilt, cham-
pions of District illA, and the
Hondo Owls, District 28A title-
holders.
Tlie winner will enter regional
competition the following week.
Industrial, coached by 1. C. Wen-
del, won the right to meet Hondo
by taking Karnes City, -0 to 13
last week in a game played here
ill Edna. At the same lime, Hondo
was trouncing Devine, 33 to 12.
The Owls are undefeated, win-
' uing ten straight, while Industrial
lost iis opener to Class AA Cuero,
IS to 11).
Industrial officials, who worn the
toss for the site of the game when
Tom Itaukin, ardent fan, called the
toss of a coin Ut San Antonio Sun-
day, selected the El Campo site
because of its larger sealing ca-
pacity. The afternoon hour was
chosen to avoid the extreme eold
such as marred the game last week.
The Edna) Stadium agaiu was of-
fered to Industrial officials. It
seats 2,700. Many Ediia fuus ure
in El Campo for the contest.
Both elevens lire at full strength
for the game.
Mayor Harry Mauritz has
officially proclaimed Thursday,
Nov. 29, us Thanksgiving Day
iu Edna. All business houses
will close.
The proclamation was Issued
in view of the fact the Edna
Jayeees recently circulated the
town and found a majority of
the merchants wanted to close
on the last Thursday of the
mouth.
As has been the usual case
in recent years, there has been
much confusion on whether the
fourth or fifth Thursday
should be observed. Governor
Allan Shivers this yeuk has
proclaimed today (Nov. 22) as
Thanksgiving and some towns
ure taking this day, but u
state law now has been passed
making the official Thanksgiv-
ing the last Thursday begiuuing
next year.
