Rasberry Reunion
Held In Oklahoma
Grandchildren of James Law-
son and Mary Alice Rasberry
held a reunion recently in the
home of Maxine Sparkman of
Mangum, OK.
Of the original 19 grand-
children, eight are still living
and seven of the eight were
able to attend. Maude Broyles
of Pasadena, who is 90 years
old, was unable to attend the
event.
Although some had not seen
each other for fifty years, it
was as if no gap in time had
occurred. A visit from a second
cousin and his wife from
Jemison, AL was a welcomed
surprise.

Glenn and Jackie Rasberry,
Emory, Tx; Azalia Thomas,
Sandy, UT; Jack and Alice

cousin, Coy J. Rasberry and
wife of Jemison, AL.

RECEIVES AWARD-On Thursday, Aug. 1, the East Texas Pri-
vate Industry Council hosted the 1996 Awards Ceremony for the
1996 Summer Youth Employment and Training Program at Kil-

gore High School. The ceremony recognized 28 participants of
the 1996 Summer Youth Employment and Training Program as
Outstanding Employees. These individuals were recommended
by their employment supervisors on the basis of their excellent
contributions to their work places. Each of the youths recognized
received a plaque which indicated that they had been outstand-
ing employees during the summer program. One of the individ-
uals recognized resides in Rains County. Michele Thomas, who
worked at Northeast Texas Opportunities, Inc. in Emory, was the
Rains County resident recognized at the ceremony. Michele’s su-
pervisor, Florene McMillan, stated, “Michele has been an out-
standing worker with a superb attitude. She has been most coop-
erative, had a good appearance and was always on time.” Ernest
Brewster, Vice-Chairman of the Private Industry Council and the
owner of Hilltop Auto Sales, presented the plaque to Ms. Thom-

RECEIVES CERTIFICATE OF APPRECIATION-Florene
McMillan was presented with a certificate of appreciation for
presented by Wood County Judge Lee Wil-
liams, a representative of the Chief Elected Officials Board of
Directors. The Summer Youth Employment and Training Pro-
gram is funded through federal Job Training Partnership Act
funds provided to the East Texas Region. Approximately 1350
youths in the East Texas Region between the ages of 14 and 21
were employed through this program during the summer of
1996. The purpose of the program is to prepare youth to enter the
labor force upon completion of school. This program and other
summer job training initiatives have been funded by the federal
