Week June 7-13
With the number of
registered boots in Texas
recently hitting an all-time
high,, Governor Bill Clements
hos signed a proclamation
designating June 7-13 as
Texas Safe Boating Week.
Texas Safe Boating Week
coincides with National Safe
Boating Week, sponsored by
the J, S. Coast Guard ond the
Notional Safe Boating
Council. This year's
nationwide theme, 'Be Smcrt
- Take a Boating Course," is
aimed at encouraging young
and experienced boaters alike
to take advantage of the
many safe boating courses
that are available.
The Texas Parks & Wildlife
Department reports there ore
currently 607,655 registered
boats In Texas, the greotest
number ever recorded. In
addition, Texans own
thousands of sailboats, which
require no registration.
"Boating Is one of the most
economical and popular forms
of family outdoor recreation,
and we wont to make sure It
remains enjoyable for
everyone," said Louie Raven,
District Director of the
Booting Trades Association of
Texas (BTAT). "Taking a
boating course and becoming
more familiar with tt* rules
of the road, require safety
equipment and maneuvering
guidelines greatly increases
the odds that all your boating
trips wlU be pleasurable
ones."

Capitol, Clements Joined with

boating industry, service and

751 was held Tuesday, May 26
at the Maintenance Office of
the Slate Department of
Highways and Public
Transportation in Emory .
