$2,950,000 of bonds ond levy-
ing the tax In payment thereof.

One of the biggest rescue
operations occurred Sunday
morning wher some 200
women wore rescued from
the Christian Church Camp
off EM 2324 In the Flats
Community. The group was
from Dallas-Eort Worth,
T yler and other, towns In
Northeast Texas. Some of
tlu vehicle, hod become
mired In mud and the ladies
were unable to get them out.
T he f Ire Department got all
the vehicles out, the ladles
pocked ond escorted them to
safe exit from the area. The
process took over 3 tours
and followed on already long
night.
At 11:30 p.m. the first coll
ccime In for a rescue search
on Hwy 19, A newly
appointed Hopkins County
highway patrolman ond his
wife, eoch driving a vehicle
became separated In the
blinding rain and the officer
was ofruld his wife tod been
washed away near the
Sabine River on So. 19 - the
Indy was later found In
Sulphur Springs, sofe.
At 12*04 a.m, a structure
fire was reported In Holiday
Hills. At 12i14 a.m, o
structure fire and wind
damage wos reported In
Whispering Oaks. Both fires
were the result of
lightening.
At 12:24 a.m, a man was
rescued On Hwy 35 neor
Henson Creek and about 12
minutes later another
stranded motorist wos
rescued rorth of that creek
neor the Bobby Tldwett place
on Hwy 35, For the next 30
min. the Firemen maintained
the roodvvay ond then at 1:36
p.m. were called to Emory to
evacuate the Kirby and
Me Dowd families # on
Cemetery Rood. These
fomllies were transported to
the fire station by
ambulance. Water entered
the Kirby mobile home.
By thot time the tennis
courts and most of the Emory
City Pork was underwater.
Following that, at 1:30 they
were called to Airport rood
where a power line and trees
were down. The firemen
assisted with the removal of
the trees.
At 3:45 a^n, a tree was
reported down near the
Forbls Cemetery and at the
same time a truck ond boat
was removed from the north
side of the Cemetery rood
where they hod been washed
off the road.
At 4:15 cum, a rescue wos
mode In the Shady Grove
Community where a bridge
hod washed away and left a
truck stranded. From then
until morning, the firemen
checked oil mojor roadways
In the county for down
power lines, washed out
bridges and high water.
At 9 cum, the colt come In
from the Christian camp.
Local power eomponles,
Texas-New Mexico ond
Farmers Electric Co-op
employees worked
throughout the night on
power outoges which
affected some parts of the
county and for a time, the
city of Emory.
During this some period, the
Alba Fire Department was on
stond-by.
Around the Point area,
damoges were evident ond It

Burris mobile tome on Hwy
47 were oil damaged. The
Burns mobile ►ome was said
to have beer, moved off the
blocks.
The south port of Rains
County received heavy winds
early Sunday morning when a
second front moved through
the area. Several bridges
were washed away, culverts
damaged and a number
of large trees blown down.
There was minor damages
throughout the county from
hath the storms. Warren
Choricelor reported tils TV
destroyed by lightening and
some minor damage to his
place.
Rains which had fallen
earlier In the week left
orea lakes, ponds, creeks,
etc. full therefore high
water closed FM 275 for a
time Suridoy and all
Impoundments overflowed.
Roth Lake Fork and Lake
Towokonl ore going over
the spillway.
Rainfall during tne night
varied and wos reported
from 3 Inches to over 6
Incites. Tto official rainfall
was recorded os 3.10
Inches for April 27 and 28.
Commissioners Back
Library in Fund Drive
The Rains County Commis-
sioners' Court met Monday,
April 22nd, In a special session
to discuss the proposal of the
Roins County Public Llbrory
and the Federol Grant.
After much discussion with
members of the Llbrory Board,
the Commissioners passed o
resolution to support them In
this effort to secure the grant
monies. This meons the court,
guarantees we will hove
matching funds of $100,000 to
secure the grant by disburse
ment time.
We, os ttie people of Rains
County ond Friends of the Ll-
brory, still hove to raise ttie
funds of $100,000, but we hove
0 longer period of time to do
this.
We request your full support
by giving o donation. Your
donation is tax deductible ond
oil donations will be very m ich
appreciated.
A plaque will be placed In the
building If your gift Is $1,000 or
more, ond on orea or room will
be named In your honor If your
gift is $5,000 or more.
Oui tulol receipts to dote are
$11,525 ond $7,250 In pledges.
The estimated population of
Roins County Is 5300. If eoch
resident gave $15.25 we would
meet our goal of $100,000
