I spent the night with my sis-
ter a Lone Oak last night.
This has been one of the
kmesomest, longest days I
have ever spent in all my days I
do believe. It has been a real
nice day outside. My helper
was here. We didn't have to go
anywhere. We did the things
we needed to here. My girl
washed until 11:30.
The birds they show on T.V.
are really pretty. T.V. has
been really good today. I have
enjoyed it.
I sat down and have written
36 pages of gossip for my news
in the Leader today.
Well, it didn’t rain on us Fri-
day night, but it sure does look
like it could rain on us this Sat-
urday. 1 hope not. We sitre
don’t need any rain yet.
I am wondering if I will see
any of my boys this Saturday. I
hardly ever see them on Satur-
day.
I have seen some pretty gar-
dens. I wish 1 could have one.
You don’t know how I miss my
garden. It is terrible, but there
isn’t anyone but me and I sure
can’t have one anymore.
Oh! These lonesome days.
Saturdays and Sundays are ter-
rible. 1 am about to get ready to
go to a home where I will have
some company to be with.
It sure looks bad outside,
and it looks like it might do
almost anything. I sure don’t
know what is keeping it from
raining. It sure looks bad and
dark out. I hope it won’t.
I need some company. I
need some of my boys down. It
is too lonely this dark, damp-
looking day. 1 sure don’t like it
all. They don’t seem to like to
come down here since their
dad is gone.
It is ten after ten Saturday
morning and no one has shown
up yet. I probably won’t see
anyone on this Saturday at all.
They are giving tornado
warnings for tonight here in
Rains County. I will go up to
my sister, Louise’s and spend
the night. If some of my boys
thought anything about their
mother, they would be down
here when it is like this and go
down in the cellar with me.
ft sue isn't funny either.
Weil, I better fix me some
breakfast. I doubt if I will see
any of my boys this rainy day.
I an so sleepy. I sure didn't
deep bat nigh*. I never do
when I spend the night away
from home. I fed like going
back to bed and staying there
all day, but I can’t do that. I
don’t like the bed that much.
Dwight came down, and we
went to Greenville to eat We
just gat buck, and I am a bit
tired. It tires me to ride very
far in the car. It still looks
nuny. We sure need some nice
sunshiny weather. We have
had a cold snap again. We sure
don't need that either
I have had a very nice time
today. When Dwight left, I
went up to Mrs. Kin Whittle's
and chatted awhile. 1 have had
a very enjoyable day.
Bye now. Come to see me.
Have a nice week. We may not
have another one. We never
know, do we? Bye now. See
you next tone if die Good Lord
is willing.

Led by senior Brandon

“team-player" philosophy.
Hobbled with teg injuries
(Hooten pulled a quadracep
muscle in Friday's 12-0 base-
ball victory ova Chisum. and
Culley has been fighting a
sprained ankle and knee), both
scratched from their individual
specialties, the triple jump and
the long jump, to concentrate
on the relays for the good of
the team.
Hooten anchored and Culley
ran the second leg on both the
4x 100-meter and 4x-400-meter
relay teams (comprised of
Lance Sharp. Culley. Elvin
Henry and Hooten). Lone Oak
finished first in the sprint relay
and second in the mile relay.
When asked about the condi-
tion of his leg. Hooten said.
“It’s hurting pretty bad. That's
why I passed on my last long
jump." Hooten finished third
with a 20* 8ft” jump. ”1 de-
cided to skip the triple jump
and the 100-meters so I could
run the relays. I didn't want to
let the team down.”
Culley also stated that even
though he was hurting he want-
ed to run both relays to help the
team.
“(My ankle) hurt, but not as
much running as trying to
jump." he said. "After we got
first in the sprint relay. I felt
pretty good, and I felt real
good coming across the line in
the 200-meters.''
Running in his first 200-
meter dash of the season. Cul-
ley showed no sign of injuries
as he rounded the curve, shot
out of the pack and was pulling
away at the tape.
The Buffaloes just missed
another second place when El-
vin Henry hit the last hurdle in
the 300-meter hurdles and fell
about three yards short of the
finish line. Henry dusted him-
self off. looked at the “cinder
bums" on both arms and legs

Productivity appraisal"
may lower the property
taxes on your farm,
ranch or timberland!
Texas law allows farmers, ranchers and timber growers
to pay property taxes based upon 'he “production
value” of their land rather than on its market value.
This “productivity appraisal” means qualified land is
taxed based on its ability to produce crops, livestock
or timber—not on its value on the real estate market.
And it can mean substantial property tax savings.
When Is the application deadline?
If your land has never had a productivity appraisal,
you must apply to your local appraisal district by
April 30th to take advantage of this benefit on
your 1994 property taxes. You may get up to 60 extra
days if you have a good reason and ask for it by
April 30. If you miss this deadline, you may still be
able to apply, but you will pay a penalty. Check
with your appraisal dikrict office.
Do you need to reapply annually?
If your land already receives agricultural or timber
productivity appraisal, you normally don’t need to
reapply unless the chief appraiser requires you to.
If a new application is required, the appraisal
district will notify you by mail.
