God truly blesses all those who
earnestly love Him and seek His
divine guidance. His grace is espe-
cially evident this week. Many
praises were given for the success
of the fair, the birth of Charles and
Jane Marney’s new grandchild, Mr.
Kearney’s generous donation to tne
Boy Scout troop, and last week’s
rain.
As the many members of Christ’s
body, it is our job to uphold one
another in prayer. Those in need of
your thoughts and prayers this week

Harder, Raymond Johnson, Bonnie
Peterson, Donald Hutchings, Helen

No one who comes to me will ever
be hungry again.” John 6:35.
Bro. William’s sermon Sunday
night was from I John 5 entitled
“Praise ” We had good singing.
Our attendance was low Sunday
morning We hope it will be better
next Lord's day. There are always
Sundays like this. But when you
arer't there you are missed. We
were so glad to have Dustin Paris
back We love our young people
who are coming to church
Freddie Potts is in the hospital to
have eye surgery. Verba Spence is in
the hospital. Please keep these

eat. And there is always a blessing
at Shady Grove.
Our family, along with lots of
other singers, sang at Fisherman's
Baptist Church Sunday night. There
were a lot of people and we had a
very good time.
The parade Saturday was very
good. I loved all those antique cars.
There were a lot of pretty ones
there.
Everyone enjoyed Tom Jones last
Wednesday at Green Acres and the
birthday party that evening. They
really appreciate all you do for
them. To listen to beautiful music
vided the music. Acolytes were
Johnathan Diller and Jason Mi-
chaels. Judy Sorsby was choir
director. The choir did a magnifi-
cent job in their special with Judy
Sorsby leading and Mary Nixon
assisting on the piano. Rev. David
Diller’s sermon was taken from
Luke 15:1-10 and was entitled
‘‘Dare to be Holy.”
Volunteers are needed to provide
snack suppers for UMYF. A sign-up
sheet is on the small bulletin board
in the fellowship hall. The worship
committee is still taking donations
to purchase flowers and banners for
the sanctuary. Elementary fellow-

denomination. They will meet right
after school. All kids kindergarten
through 5th grade are encouraged to
come. Pilgrims Rest Baptist Church

football game for grades 7-12. This

attend.

We hope and pray that your week
has started out great. If not, take a
little time and pray. We are blessed
to have a Women’s Prayer Group
that meets on Mondays at 9:00 a.m.
We hope to see you as we enjoy
food (pot-luck style), fellowship,
and fun on the first Sunday of every
month, after the morning worship
time.
Please do not forget that on
Sunday, October 18th, Believer’s
Baptist Church will be conducting
the services at Highland Terrace
Baptist Church in Greenville. We
are a Southern Baptist Mission
Church and are blessed to receive
by Loyd McKinney
What a wonderful day in the
Lord. Our service Sunday morning
was great, topped off with our
youth in charge of the service
Sunday night.
Irene Pecina sang the special
Sunday morning, accompanied by
our church band, although some of
the band seemed to be suffering.
Brother V.C Halbrook had a back
problem. Brother Henry had to
crawl on the platform, and Brother
J. Gaston had foot problems. This
did not hinder their performance.
Pray for them.
The morning message was from
the book of Ecclesiastes, entitled,
“A Time for Everything.” Young
V.C Halbrook led the singing for
the youth, and what a great voice
he has! Scripture was read by Cody
Lane, Heaven Lane, Jeremy Cruz,
Katy, Sarah, and Genny Moss, who
by Valeria Groves
We enjoyed the bountiful rain
and some cooler weather. Autumn
will be here this week.
The purple haze of Autumn is
with us, and the crows are carrying
on heated conversations early in the
mornings.
Easter Blount spent one night
with Mary Marie Gilliland of Royse
City and came to visit Ester Lue
Vititow. She got a call from her son
that she had a gas leak on her prop-
erty and had to return to Dallas.
Justin Wolfe won second place
with his calf at the fair.
Diana Wolfe is to go back to
M.D. Anderson Hospital for her
treatment soon. She couldn’t miss
the judging of the calves.
Little Hannah Cooper is really
growing and observing the world
around her.
Margaret Freiberger of Fred-
ericksburg and Faye Freiberger of
Yukon, Oklahoma, are visiting the
Arlie Holmans.
They visited with us at church.
We are always so proud to have
them worship with us.
I have had a bad case of gout this
week in my right knee.
Mrs. Verna Barnett is reported to
be doing fine after her fall, and
prayer and support from Highland
Terrace Baptist, Hunt Baptist
Association, and Texas Mission
Board of the Southern Baptist
Convention. So we will see you in
Greenville for a great time of wor-
shiping the Lord Jesus!
Wow! What a Jesus Deal we had
Sunday! The worship team of Ronn
Wade, Steve Climer, Tiny Jones,
Jeanette Beasley, Nancy Wade (key-
boardist) and sound technician Jim
Jones prepared our hearts musically
and did a wonderful job.
Our Pastor Brian Hutchinson fed
His sheep with a sermon entitled
“The Winning Walk” from
Ephesians 4:1 -3.
also brought us a special song.
The skits brought tears and
laughter to the large crowd that was
truly blessed by the service. All the
young people did a wonderful job
under the direction of our able
youth workers Pete and Lynn Cruz
and Guy and Cheryl Moss.
Lonnie Cross, missionary to Col-
umbia, South America, will be with
un in the Wednesday night service
to tell us of his work there. He and
his wife Sonjia are missionaries.
Brother Floyd Sturdcvant and his
wile were in Weaver Baptist
Church preaching Sunday. We miss
them when they are away, and we
ask you to pray for Brother Floyd as
he goes to the hospital for tests
Wednesday.
"Where no wood is, there the fire
goeth out: So where there is no tale-
bearer, the strife ceascth.” Proverbs
26:20.
Veda Rhea Terry is much improved.
Doris Giles had a much better
week. Jon Giles has been awarded
the title of Associate Minister of
Youth at the Dixon Baptist Church.
The girls’ volleyball team won
games over the Wills Point and
Greenville teams Saturday.
The Shields and Freiberger re-
union was a big success with many
cousins present and a wealth of
good food.
The beautiful flower arrangement
by Cornelia Garrett was dedicated
to the memory of Ross GarTCtt, who
died September 21, 1968, and
Bessie Mae Lee, who died Sep-
tember 21, 1979.
Brother Wayne Wolfe chose
Isaiah 40:26 for his sermon Sunday
morning. We had a great service
after the business meeting. The
church was given an invitation to
attend the County Line Baptist
Church for Sunday night services.
We had another visitor today. I
did not get his name, but he is relat-
ed to Howard and Cornelia Garrett.
He is planning on going into the
Armed Services in October.
I have earned another birthday,
and the choir sang Happy Birthday
to me
Have a great week.

Today was a beautiful day, so
bright and sunny and a lot cooler
than it has been. We received a lot
of rain that we had been praying for,
but did you think to tell God how
grateful we were to receive it? I
know I did.
We had a really nice crowd in
services Sunday, and everyone
seemed to have an upbeat spirit,
quite a change from when it was so
hot and humid. We again were
blessed with a great many visitors,
some for the first time. We want to
bid them welcome and invite them
to come again.
Our announcements were given
by Neil Norton. He reminded us of
the Monday night Bible study that
is held at the church. Also, there
will be a meeting of the auction
committee on Tuesday night at 7:00
at the church. Everyone that is
interested in helping make this auc-
tion a success is invited to attend
We will find a place for them to
serve, as we can use all the help we
can get.
It seems the men's prayer break-
fast was a success. There were
twelve men in attendance. They
must have heard that Don Holt and ,
Bruce Schuck were doing the cook-
ing.
We were missing several mem-
bers of the church due to various
reasons. We wish those who are ill a
speedy recovery and those who arc
away a safe journey home.
Special prayer is being requested
Tor the baby of Becky Hurley who
is very ill in a Dallas Hospital.
Please remember these folks in
your prayers.
At our annual business meeting
held last Wednesday night, there
were several resignations. Sam Wil-
liams resigned as our song leader
and was replaced by Mike Stuckey.
Rita Williams resigned as church
secretary and Ruby Woods took
over her job. Neil Norton resigned
as Sunday school superintendent
and Billy Burnett took his place. We
were sorry to see these folks resign,
but we were thankful that these
other folks were able to fill these
posts.
We are very fortunate to have so
many who are willing to serve the
Lord in any way they can.
Our special for this morning was
by the White Oak choir. They have
been practicing and it shows. It was
truly beautiful.
Bro. Arlis’ sermon was entitled
“There is a Way That Seemeth
Right to Man" taken from Proverbs
14: 1-12. As usual, it was a timely
and inspiring message for us all.
In our evening service, our open-
ing prayer was by Billy Burnett.
We had a wonderful song service
led by Sam Williams who will con-
tinue as our song leader until
October 1.
The evening message from Bro
Arlis was entitled "Watch for the
Coming of Jesus" taken from
Matthew 24 verse 42. This was a
message that we truly needed to
help sustain us in the world we live
in today.
Keep watching this column for
more information about our auction
sale that is set for October 17. The
time and place have not been estab-
lished as yet.
May God bless each and every
one of you, and while you are pray-
ing, please add my name to your
list, as I need all the prayers that I
can get.
I am so happy to be able to write
this column, and I hope that I am
able to continue for a long time.

We have had a busy week with
our booth at the Rains County Fair
and our gospel singing Saturday
night. If you missed the singing,
you missed a blessing. We appreci-
ate everyone who stopped by our
booth during the week.
We had another big crowd Sun-
day morning. We had lots of visi-
tors, and we were glad to have Mar-
sha Monroe and her children back
with us. C. H. and Linda January
had their son and daughter-in-law
and twin grandchildren from San
Antonio with them.
Bro. Ramsey’s morning message
was taken from II Tim. 3: 1,8 and
Matt. 24: 36,41 and was entitled
"In Times Like These.”
Lorene Burns sang a special ac-
companied by J. D. Burns on the
guitar, then she sang one with a
friend. We enjoyed them both.
We sang Happy Birthday to Mrs.
Bums and Vickie Halbrook.
Prayer requests included Randy
Traylor, who was kicked by a horse
and received six broken ribs and a
punctured lung; Bernard Rusk,
Dale Shedd, Vicki Holloway, the
Ramseys’ niece, Ron’s grandson
and several others. Bro. Ramsey al-
so is not feeling well. He goes back
to the doctor Monday to get anoth-
er shot in his back.
Bro. James Berry will not be able
to conduct our revival Oct. 11-14,
so Luther Townsend from Bellview
will be our evangelist. Mark your
calendars and make plans to attend.
See you all next week, Lord will-
ing and the saints don’t rise!
