to consumers under the Meat
Inspection Act by establishing
standards for uniformity and
wholesomeness for products
sold under the name of "lard"
in interstate or foreign com-
merce were made at a hearing
called in Washington by the U.
S. Department of Agriculture
for June 18.
Eastern truck growers are
waxing such vegetables as pep-
pers tomatoes eggplants cu-
cumbers and squash. A wax
emulsion for that purpose costs
three to four cents a bushel and
results in premiums of from 20
to 30 cents. Leafy vegetables
and bunched root crops cannot
be waxed satisfactorily.
Between 1930 and 1935 the
number of farm units in opera-
tion in the United States rose
from 6288000 to 6812000 an
increase of more than half a
million.

a method of producing oil from
graneseeds and a paint formu
la using grapeseed oil is already
available; Each year some 80-
000 tons of oil-bearing seed are
thrown away.
