The Litter Letter
By Harold L. Carr
Rains County Environmental Enforcement
Officer and On-Site Sewage Systems Inspector
We were blessed with a very
nice rain this past weekend. It
was surely refreshing to get that
rain, settling the dust, and mak-
ing everything smell good again.
It was been a long dry spell and I
will be surprised if we had
enough rain to lift the burn ban.
Please do not run out and start
burning that brush pile you all
have stacked up awaiting an
opportunity to burn. Give your
local volunteer firefighters a
break. Do not make their jobs
more difficult by causing wild-
fires for them to fight. Hopefully,
we will soon receive some more
of the fall rains, and we will be
able to burn after the commis-
sioners court is able to revoke the
current bum ban. The soil arid
vegetation are so dry it will take
a considerable amount of rain to
overcome the dry conditions,
I am enrolled in a peace offi-
cer’s academy. Due to this activ-
ity, I will be out of the office spo-
radically until the end of the
year. Some of the classes are day
schedules and some are night
schedules. If you have difficulty
. contacting me during this time,
please be patient, I will get back
to you as soon as possible.
the next “Dumpster Day” will
be Saturday, October 21.
I can be reached at 903-473-
2535, rains. co.litter@ verizon.
net or at the office at 102 Doris
Briggs Parkway.
