Here it is mid-September. The
county fair just concluded and
fall is rapidly approaching; even
though the warm daytime tem-
peratures seem to deny the calen-
dar’s gentle warning. It is now
time to get on with fall clean up
- preparing for winter and the
aggravations that can come with
it.
The pile of stuff that mysteri-
ously accumulated behind the
house needs to be evaluated and
disposed of so it does not
become a winter home for bugs,
rats, mice and snakes. If these
vermin move jn and set up
housekeeping, they may also
xlecide-yottuhofne is warmer and
more attractive when the winter
weather turns wet and cold.
To be sure, some of these
insects are beneficial but they
may not be ideal housemates.
Consider the scorpion: They eat
small insects and benefit us in
that regard. Their defense mech-
anism is quite unpleasant, should
you step on one, while walking
barefoot through the house.
Scorpions are flat and can make
themselves even flatter.
They can pass through a
crevice as small as one-sixteenth
of an inch. This brings us back to
that pile of stuff. You just do not
need them that close to your
house. Do something about that
stuff! .......................
