Happy 1st Girthdsy,
fiylea tlise Helmbepg ep!
We love you% Rylea Pea.
Pupa, (irandma. Dadds. Mommy Etaina
tain features of the home arc tai -
lored for larger-than-life Charles,
such as a very high countertop
in the master bath; there is obvi-
ously a lower one for Joyce.
She said, “We didn't build the
house to sell or to satisfy anyone
else; we built it for ourselves so
we could entertain large groups
sometimes 25-30 people.” A
view of trees and the surround-
ing countryside is possible from
all lour sides ol the house, and
you'd better watch out, Joyce.
The grounds arc so beautiful and
serene that there may be more
than 25-30 people traipsing out
to see you at one time. Oops!
Nearly forgot to mention that
Charles is plenty proud of the
concrete pad he had poured on
which to place his grill.
Actually, Joyce came hack
to her r.mts to retire Her par
ents, E.W. and Frances Willis,
lived on the same land when
Joyce was bom, and she attended
Rains School through the sev-
enth grade. "We always went to
town to shop on Saturdays, and I
remember going to Booker Nix 's
drugstore to get our sodas And
the women washed their hair and
pul it up in curlers so it would
look nice to go to church on Sun-
day mornings,” she remembered
with a smile.
While the Willises always kept
land and cattle here, the fam-
ily moved to McKinney where
Joyce met Charles. High school
sweethearts they were, and then
it was off to the University of
Nonh Texas lor Joyce and off to
Baylor lor ('harles. Joyce shared,
"Although we went out with
other people, we maintained our
relationship throughout college.
Our hearts were always with
each other"
Presently, their hearts have
been together for a very long
tunc. Charles said with a wry
■ in, e il«? It until 'Jr*' >
her 6, we will have oui 40th

shared with pride. “Yes, we come
from a very long line ol love.
My giundparents, Mannon and
Mamie Willis, celebrated their
50lh, and we’ve had seven others
in the family who have celebrated
50th anniversaries. My parents
Celebrated their 60th.” Family
anniversary plates are displayed
in the home, and Joyce went on
to say that she thinks that since
their children are now older.
Wyatt and Holly fully appreciate
then family heritage - a long line
of love.
Meanwhile, Charles said,
"People don’t need to start look-
ing for things to keep me busy
because I won’t be one of those
retirees who sits on the couch
and watches TV. I'll always have
mowing and other things to do.”
Joyce plans to do some travel-
ing, as the couple did in the past,
entertain large groups, and enjoy
watching birds from her new sun
porch.
So there you are: Not only can
Charles Carrell keep a job, he has
kept the same wife for nearly 40
years - long enough for the cou-
ple to enter their “golden years”
and be off on an adventure in a
new home in Rains County.
