Soft Ball Teams
Organized; First
Game Monday Night
Organization of four local
soft ball teams was completed
this week and the first game
scheduled for Monday night.
Thi'a game is planned as a
double-header with Bartlett
Motor Co. team meeting the Air
Port team and Western Auto
meeting Bartlett Cafe. Game
time has been set at 7:45.
The games will be played on
the high school footbaall field
where a soft ball diamond was
laid out this week.
A team is being organized at
Schwertnor according to publi-

The eighth grade class of the
grammar school was entertain-

last Thursday night with a coke

Monday May 12. A closing pro-
gram will be given that night

Contributions $190.30
A final report on contribu-
tions to the Texas City Relief
Fund is $190.30 from local citi-
zens. The local drive was spon-
sored by the American Legion
and A. 'A. Gersbach and C. E.
Lamb conducted the campaign
in town.

Day In Bartlett
"Help and hope is the mean-
ing of the memorial poppy to
those who are paying the human
cost of our world war victories."
Bartlett Unit of the American
Legion Auxiliary stated today
as the Auxiliary continued pre-
parations for the annual obser-
vance of Poppy Day May 24.
"All the money contributed
by those who wear poppies in
memory of the war dead goes to
aid the wars' living victims the
disabled veterans their families
and the families of the dead"

died in an automobile mishap
shortly before noon Wednesday.
Death came when his car struck
a culvert on the Fannett High
way about 20 miles from Beau
mont.
Survivors include his wife the
former Mi'ss Mary Stokes of
Bartlett and three children.
The Woods moved to Beau
mont about four years ago from
Galveston.
LUTHER LEAGUE
MEETING SUNDAY
St. John's Luther League had
its monthly meeting Sunday
night in the church basement.
The meeting opened with the
song "Beautiful Savior." Juanita
Voigt read Psalm 22 and Rev.
Sager led in .prayer. A sound
film on Spokane Washington
was presented. Mamie Meyar
gave-a topic on Church Etiquet-
te. The program closed with the
song "My Truest Friend Abides!
in Heaven.
The business meeting follow-
ed and 39 members and four
visitors were reported present.
All committee reports were giv -
en. Sundav. Mav 11th. The Aus -
tin Federation Meeting is to be
held in Bartlett. 450 young peo-
ple are expected to come. The
meeting closed with the Lord's
Prayer.

Mack Davis who died at his
home in Austin at 3':00 a. m.
Thursday of a heart attack.
Mack Davis made his home in
Bartlett for a number of years
where he was in business. He
had recently moved to Austin .

line. Miss Annie Lois Scale was

The lace covered table was set
in crystal with pink candles in
crystal holders giving light on
the table and buffet. Pink roses
were used in the dining room
and red and white roses were
used throughout the house.
Mrs. George Cagle presided
at the punch bowl and Misses
Elaine Adams and Dorothy Ros-
enbalm and Mrs. Edmond Plem-
mons assisted in the dining

Brownie Troop No. 5 enter-
tained their mothers Thursday

school. The entertainment con-
sisted of Brownie songs games

During the social hour re-

teen Brownies two leaders and
twenty-seven guests.

for the week-end. Saturday af-
ternoon at 4:00 o'clock they
meet Taylor here and Sunday

but has been showing much im-
provement. Last week they de

Last week-end the Bulldogs
split with Hughes Tool Com
pany of Houston loosing on bat-
urday 8:7 and winning Sunday
5-0. The manager of the Hughes
Tool Co. team stated while here
that Bartlett has the strongest
club he has seen this year.
At present the local team has
an open date for May 18. On
May 25 they will- meet Granger
here and on June 1 they meet
Caldwell here.

Resumes Annual

After a five year lapse due to
the war Western Auto Supply
Company of Missouri is again
sponsoring its well-known and
popular Big Bass Contest. This
year the contest is bigger than
ever before. Prizes totaling
$10657.50 in list value will be
awarded the winning contest-
ants throughout the country.
First prize winner in each of
the thirty-five states this year
will receive a big six horsepower
Wizard Outboard motor with a
list value of $159.50. Second
prize will be a Heddon rod and
Coxe reel with a list value of
$75.00; third prize a rod and
reel with a list value of $40.00;
fourth prize will be assorted
tackle valued at $20.00 and fifth
prize assorted tackle valued at
$10.00.
This contest is free and open
to all. There are no obligations
or purchases necessary. Free
