the Capitol Area Council for
salaries for executive and field

ed owanizational expenses and
the like. This area has as its
summer camp site Camp Woot-
en several miles northwest of
Austin in the hills""and on the
Colorado Ri'ver a beautiful and
healthful site. Funds aro neces
sary for the maintenance and
improvement of this camp and
for operating expenses not cov
ered by camp fees.
Scout work is carried on in
the various communities by men
who give their time gratis. Scry-
ing on county and area commit-
tees are prominent men of high
ability who receive no compen-

Opener By 4-3 Score
Following the pattern set m
football and basketball this sea-
son Bartlett High just couldn't
quite defeat the Rogers Eagles
last Friday and lost the season
opener in baseball 4-3.
The Bulldogs took the lead in
the second inning when James
Davis scored after an error
fielder's choice stolen base and
overthrow to third. Bartlett
stretched the lead to two runs
in the first of he third when
Dicky Cagle'got on base on an
error advanced to third and
scored on Eugene Helm's fly to
center fi'eld.
Rogers scored once each in
the third and fourth innings to

district of Texas. This di'sti'ict
is composed of Bell Bosque Cor-
yell Erath and Hamilton count-
ies. Shofner is a former member
of the Legislature from Bell
county having served in the
44th House of Representatives
where his work earned him an
award from the American
Legion for "Distinguished Ser-
vice to Texas."
He was roared in Killeen
where he finished the public
schools.He later attended Texas

Southwestern and Cumberland
Universities. He received his
legal education from; the latter.

active as a trial lawyer in con-
nection with his practice having
engaged in a large number of
civil and criminal cases. His

qualify him to represent this
district on the floor of the Sen-
ate -and in committee rooms. His

and his background of legal
training they say peculiarly
fits him for the post he seeks.
He stated that he expects to
wage an intensive campaign over
the five-county district discus-
sing with the peopl6 at first
hand their legislative and gov-
ernmental needs. He says that
he will close his campaign with
an extensive speaking tour of.

Shofner has stated that he
thinks the senator should keep
in close touch with the people
he represents and that he in-
tends to maintain i'n the various
counties of the district offices
in the courthouses which he will
visit in rotation on Saturdays
both during the legislative ses-
sions and otherwise. This he
says will permit the people to
confer with him without having

Bulldogs To Open
League Baseball
Season Here Sunday
Bartlett's Town Bulldogs will
open the Cen-Tex league baseball
race at home Sunday afternoon
when they meet the Granger
Tigers in what may easily prove
to be one of the best games o
the season. Game time is 2:30.
Bartlett and Granger closed
last season with their champion-
ship series to decide the winner
of the league and the two tcama
have played to a 5-5 tic fn an
eleven inning game this season.
This game was scheduled as a
seven inning practice game.
Bartlett plans to start its top
pitcher Harry White and Gran-
ger is reported to be importing"
a pitcher for the game. They
also have Albert Simcek who
stands high among league pitch
ers.

schedule may be completed in

ent plans include two games
with Granger on those dates i
both teams complete their sched-
ule without' having to postpone

Last Suijday the Bulldogs de-
feated Belton 25 to 1 in a seven
inning practice game at Belton.
