Old Land Mark Destroyed
By Fire Wednesday Night
Wednesday nicrht. Dec. 80th.
about 2 oclock the Fowler old
home on the farm owned bV"l.
E. Barteltt located east of Bart-
ldtt -was destroyed by fire the
barn also (being consumed by the
flames. Ori'gin of the fire un-
known. It caught in the roof and
it was falling in when discovered
by Mr. Bishop and family who
were living on the place.
The (home of 16 rooms was
Ibuilt by Mr. T. F. Fowler in il87Q
and was1 headquarters for his
sheep ranch composed of severql
thousand acres of land which he
operated tfor years in the country
east of Ba'triett.
Norman Wood Passed Away
Norman Wood 28 years old
well known farmer died Thurs-
day December 24 at liis" home
six miles' east of Barltlett after
an illness of seven days with
pneumonia. Burial took place
Friday afternoon at the Holland
cemetery Rev. C. W. Pierson of
Jarrell officiating.

Brick Building
E. W. Curling proprietor of
the Necessity Store has purchas-
ed the new brick building next
door to the First National Bank
which has recently been complet-
ed by that institution and has
moved his stock of merchandise
into same.
Boy Seriously Injured By
Automobile
The little son of Mr. nnd Mrs.
W. L. Stokes was Ibadly injured
yesterday afternoon by an auto
mobile which struck ihim as ho
was crossing the street in front
of the residence. Ho was injured
about the head and taken to
Temple for surgical treatment. It
was feared that he was injured
mrcrnauy.

J. E. Montgomery Rhode Is
land Red fancier of this place
who took five regular prizes and
one special prize on his magnif-
icent birds' at the Bell countv
poultry fair held in Temple last
month has sent his prize birds
to the Lone Star Poultry associ-
ataion show being held now in
Sari Antonio. In this show he will
have much greater competition
because the poultry fanciers of
five states will be eligible to ex-
hibit their stock.
Kuehn - Hightowcr
On Saturday morning Jan. 2
Miss Leola Hightower and Mr.
Ben M. Kuehn were united in
the holy bonds of Matrimony by
Rev. W. D. Boswell at tho Bap
tist church in Granger accord-
ing to the ordinance of God and
the law of our country.
They were accompanied to
Granger by the bride's father
Mr. A. B. Hightower.
The groom is the son of Mr.
W. M. Kuehn of New Ulm Tex
as. He is one of the most prom
inent young men of that com-
muntiy. The bride is the daught-
er of Mr. and iMrs. A. B. High-
tower of this city and was rear-
ed' here and' is one of Bartlett's
most charming young Jadies.
Schultz - Friedrich
On Tuesday noon Jan. 5th. Mr.
Gus W. Schultz and Miss Mae
Friedrich were quietly married
at the Lutheran Church only
close relatives and friends being
present. Rev. Theo. Bogisch per-
formed the ceremony.
Mr. and Mrs. G. C. Cormany
arrived here this week to make
their home and are occupying
the J. S. White old home on
Clark Street. Mr. Cormany is
the new proprietor of the Bari
lett Ice plant and comes to our
town highly recommended.
Miss Lula Mae Duncan spent
tho holidays in Ft. Worth.
Alfred Hand from Rosenberg
visited i'n the home of A. Gers-
bachj Jr. during the holidays.
Mr. and 'Mrs. D. D. Bartlett
were the guests of relatives in
Taylor the past week.

making their home in Houston
with their children while Mr.
Heinsohn is recovering from a
serious illness.

ill in the Rosebud hospital.

Galveston during the holidays.
