i BUSINESS PEACE TALK . . . Dr. Frank Norwood, division
chairman of the business department, was presented the "Big
( Chief" award as part of the program during the Phi Beta Lamb-
Ida banquet last Friday.

full, week of national television

of the environmental problems,
whichos being circulated bv stu-
dents from the Baptist Student
Union at Texas Wesleyan, has
accumulated more than 500 sig-
natures.
The petition, "Operation: For
Our Children — A Better Amer-
ica," is being Circulated nation-
wide until signatures ffom 20
million people, or one-tenth of'
the population has be'en accu-
mulated.

fnate To Vote on Proposals
69-70 Handbook Revision Listed for Reference
Listed below a copy of proposed revisions to the Code
of Student Affairs as proposed by a Senate committee. As set
forth in the current Handbook, these proposals must be printed
ty cc in the Rambler then voted upon by the Student Senate.
They are then submitted to a joint student-faeulty-administra-
pon committee for final approval and recommendation to the
president of the College.
The revisions were decided by a Senate-appointed commit-
ic NFIDENTIALITY OF STUDENTS' RECORDS
Page 4, Paragraph 4, Sentence 2
The words: "certain College officials" be amended to read
"College" administrative officers."
Page 5, Paragraph 1, Sentence 1
The words "authorized College personnel" be amended to
read "College administrative officers."
Rationale: It. is felt that the original terms were vague and
that the information found in a student's record
should be available to as few people as possible in
most cases.
RIVACY
Page 6, Paragraph 2, Sentence 3
The words "by another College employee or by two students"
be amended to read "by another College employee and two
students."
Rationale: It is felt that the presence of just one more College
employee does not entitle a student to the rights
as guaranteed. Under the amendment, the search
would be made by the College representatives AND
at least two students, thereby assuring the student
suspect of representation by his peers.
iTUDENT ORGANIZATIONS
Page 8, Paragraph 8, Sentence 1
The sentence which reads "Student organizations may not
solicit outside the College for prizes, gifts or donations" be
deleted.
Rationale: In the past, student organizations have conducted
contests, etc., in which prizes were donated by mem-
bers of the Fort Worth business community and it
is felt that this practice in no way places the or-
ganization or the College in a compromising position.
Academic matters
Page 10-11
A Committee "on Academic Affairs, composed of both student
and faculty' representatives, be established to hear charges
of improper evaluation. The committee would take the place
of the Dean of the College in the present Code. Thus, after
discussing his questions with both his instructor and division
chairman, a student could appeal his grade before the Com-
mittee on Academic Affairs. This committee would then
make any appropriate recommendations to either the Pres-
ident of the College or faculty tenure committee.
K Rationale: It is felt that somewhere in the hierarchy of the
appeal procedure there should be some chiujce for
review by students. If the .committee were establish-
ed. the instructor would still have final authority
in grade determination; however, rather than the
recommendation of one person (the Dean), the recom-
mendations would come from a student-faculty group.
COLLEGE REGULATIONS
Page 12, paragraph 1, Sentence 2
The sentence which reads "The institution discourages the
use of intoxicants at all times." be deleted.
Rationale: , It is felt that the sentence does 4not directly relate
to the social responsibilities of the College since
alcohol itself is not an illegalvCommodity.
Page 12, Paragraph 1, Sentence 3
The words "beverages off campus is expected to be" be
amended to read "beverage's offcamfrws and returns to
the campus is expected to be."
Rationale: The way the sentence presently reads\it seems that
a student may be subject to disciplinary action just
for consuming alcohol even though he is off campus.
Page 12, Paragraph 5,", Sentence 1
The words "The College prohibits its students from pos-
sessing, using," be amended to read "The College cautions
its students against possessing, using,".
Rationale: Due to the stringent federal and state laws regard-
ing these items, it is felt that the College does not
have legal responsibility in prohibiting such items.
THE INDIVIDUAL STUDENT
Page 17-19
It is felt that some specific definition as to what consti-
tutes a minor and a majoi^offensp~must be madeV A list of
violations which fall into each''category would be helpful.
STUDENT SUPREME COURT
Page 22, Paragraph 8, Sentence 1
Tile sentence which reads "Four associate justices appoint-
ed by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court" , be amended
to read "Six associate justices appointed by the President
of the Student Association."
Rationale: It is felt that a larger number of court members is
needed to give a more diversified rej&esentation on
the court. In keeping with the Constitution of the
Student Association, and to maintain a type of
balance of powers, it is felt that the appointments
should be made by the President of the Student
Association rather than the Chief Justice.
COMMITTEE ON STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS
Page 23, Paragraph 3, Sentence 1
It is felt that the chairman of the committee should be
appointed from a definite group of the college community—
student, faculty or administration, \3ince the chairman,
votes only in case of a tie, his affiliation is not of mfjor
consequence; however, the affiliation should be defined.
QoLLn St ears
this petition conveys our dismay
at the realization that we have
allowed our country to deteri-
orate because,,we have been mem-
bers of the 'silent majority,' but
also our firm determination to
end this silence and fulfill our
dreams of a better America for
our children,"
Copies of the petition are avail-
able from Jim Pedigo, president
of the BSU, or from the BSU
office located on the east side
of Ann Waggoner Hall.,
"We hope," said Cliff Abchier,
director of the BSU, "that every
student on the Texas Wesleyan
Campus avails himself of this
opportunity to call attention
the deteriorating environment.
We would like to thank every-
one for helping us in this project
and wish to especially thank ev-
ery person who has signed the
petition thus far," he added.
