Out of the East
“The fronds of palms stood still against the
sky —the brown roofs of hidden houses
peeped through the green foliage, through
big leaves that hung shining and still—The
East, so old, so mysterious, resplendent and
sombre, living and unchanged, full of danger
and promise.”
Out of the East comes the breath of to*
mance and of mystery, calling to us, dwellers
cf the western world. To you it calls and
waits for you, lying hidden in the strange
harmonies of its music — the languorous,
wailing musk of the Orient, vivid with
color, sad with the untold tragedies of the
centuries.
It may all be yours if you own

ture of Tanlac, t he well-knovn medi-
cine, which according to recent re-
ports it now having tbs largest rale
of any medicine of its kind in the
world.
The erection of the new plant was
made necessary by the rapid growth
of the business, aa the older plant
was found to be wholly inadequate to
supply the ever-increasing demand
which at the present rate of sale will
amount to more than five million bot-
tles for the present year alone.
By the erection of this plant the
manufacturers of Tanlac a» giving
to the'world just one more evidence
of the remarkable growth and ex-
pansion of their business, and of
their absolute confidence in its future.
This announcement will be read
with interest not only by the many
thousands of Tanlac agents scatter-
ed throughout every state of the Un-
ion and throughout Canada, but to
the millions who have used it bene-
ficially as well. *
The new building occupies 60,000
square feet of floor space. It is six
stories in height, practically fire-
proof throughout, and is of striking
architectural design. It also has pri-
vate railway facilities.
This beautiful new structure now
stands -in striking contrast beside the
older building where Tanlac was first
made.
Visitors to the laboratories are
strongly impressed with the extre-
mely modern character of the quip-
ment. Everything is provided
splendidly arranged to promote sys-
tematic and rapid production. The
very latest machinery and devices
known to invention and pharmaceuti-
cal science are here used.
The interior throughout is finished
in spotless white, and all of the large
force of employees wear white uni-
forms, which they are required to
change daily. The main offices on the

TITLE TO BLUE RIDGE
FARM IS FOUND GOOD
Austin, Texas, June 13.—The At-
torney General has completed an ex-
amination of the abstract of title to
the several tracts included in the
Blue Ridge farm and generally the
title is in good condition. The com-
pletion of the examination is expect-
ed to be followed by a formal tender
of the money for the purchase of
the farm, under the State’s option
which is now in litigation in Fort
Bend county.
The abstract developes that there
are 5,972 acres in the farm and the
option provides that the State has the
power of purchasing same at |50 an
acre, or a total of $296,350. The
Prison Commission has over $700,000
in cash and is abie to make the ten-
der at any time.

KILLED BY LIGHTNING

marble and mahogany.
The entire process of manufacture
is conducted under absolutely sani-
tary conditions. Even the bottles
made expressly to contain Tanlac are
washed and sterilized electrically by
the ultra violet ray process. They are
then filled by automatic machinery
and the finished product is therefore
never touched by human hands.
When Tanlac was introduced into
Canada history repeated itself, and
the demand which had been created
in the United States was quickly du-
plicated in the Dominion Provinces.
As a result, it was recently found
necessary to establish another Tan-
lac laboratory at Windsor, Canada,
which is on somewhat smaller scale
than the plan at Dayton, but is no
ness modernly equipped.
These new facilities give a daily
capacity of 36,000 bottles, but as Tan-
lac is being rapidly introduced into
foreign countries it is probably only
a question of a few years before even
large facilities will become necessary
While the manufacturers are nec-
essarily working for capacity produc-
tiori, it is a fundamental rule of the
Tanlac Laboratories that the quality
of the medicine shall never be sacri-
ficed to secure quantity output.
Uniform quality is guaranteed by
a series of careful inspections by ex-
pert chemists, from the time the
roots, herbs and barks are received in
rough state from all parts of the
globe until their medicinal properti-
es have been extracted by the most
approved processes. The finished
medicine is then bottled, labelled, and
shipped out to the tens of thousands
of druggists throughout the United
States and Canada, to supply a de-
mand neri-r before equalled for this
or any other medicine.
. The executive sales offices are lo-
cated in Atlanta, Georgia, and occu-
py almost an entire floor cf the
Fourth National Bank Building of
that city.
Tanlac is sold by leading druggists
everywhere.

No Income Tax on Advertising
A question under discussion by
the committee yesterday was that by
which the large firm* of the Nortn
and East have increased their adver-
tising recently. It was pointed out
that money spent for advertising is
deducted from firm earnings and no
income tax is collected on such expen-
ditures. Advertising is listed as cap-
ital invested in the income tax scale
of the National Government.
“The larger firms of the East,’’
said President Martin, “have hit upon
the plan of spending large amounts
for advertising as a means of build-
ing up t heir business. The plan is
doubly profitable, as it is deducted
from the income tax and at the same
time serves to increase the volume of
business.
“The opinion expressed by the
committee yesterday was that Texas
business men might well profit by
following this plan.”
