of a Protestant missionary in

Several vocal numbers were ren-
dered by the Women’s section of
the civic chorus.

and guests present.

SENIOR L.D.R. HAS
TWO NEW MEMBERS
The Senior L.D.R. met Monday,
May 31, at the Parish Hall.
The meeting was opened by sing-
ing the hymn “The Life Was Given
for Me.” Daphne -Matson read the
Scripture, Psalm 67. Beverly Har-
ris gave a reading, “Is It A Sin?”
Then the new members were
given a “Candlelight Presentation”
by the president, Martha Pederson,
and the secretary, Amie Erickson.
The two new mtembers were Jean
Green and Katherine Johnson. Thd
hymn “Living for Jesus” was sung.
The hymn “O That the Lord
Would Guide My Ways” was sung
after the presentation. Mildred
Hogstel gave a poem “Take Thou
My Hand.”
The business meeting was opened
by the secretary’s reading of the
minutes. They were approved as
read.
We decided to have our all-day
quilting on Tuesday, June 15. Each
person bring a covered dish.
Mrs. Gigstad told us about Rev.
Torvik. We decided to send $5.00 to
Rev. Torvik.
The meeting was closed by pray-
ing the Lord’s Prayer in unison.
Delicious, refreshments of cherry
cake and cheese sandwiches, ice
cold drinks and potato chips were
served by Miss Daphne Matson and
Miss Martha Pederson.
There were five visitors and two
new members and eleven members

BOSQUE COUNTY BOY
TO UNVEIL MONUMENT
Ogden Spurlin, 10-year-old son
of Mr. and Mrs. Doyle Spurlin of
Meridian, will unveil Texas’ first
major monument to the horses
which helped ■ conquer the wilder-
ness, in ceremonies on the Univer-
sity of Texas campus Monday, May
31.
The monument is a gift of the
late Ralph R. Ogden, who is a
cousin of Allen Ogden of the Norse
settlement; Ralph Ogden was
reared in Bosque County. Mr.
Ogden died before the monument
was completed; the sculptor was A.
Phimister Procter, famed for his
equestrian and other monuments in
America and Europe.
