the afternoon was devoted to infan-
try and artillery drill. The after-
noon parade on the West Point plain
came at 5:30 o’clock. G^ard mount-
ing immediately ^followed, with sup-
per directly afterwards. The call-to-
quarters was sounded at 7:lido’clock,
tattoo at 9:30 o’X ck and taps at 10
o’clock, except on^hop (dance) nights,
when it was sounded at 10:30 o’clock.

While the Military Academy co-oper-
ated in every way, Uncle Sam could
not change his schedule of training for
his young officers. Consequently' the
young star lived the life of a West

of said land and removing cloud from
