i FEAR oil. FIRE MAY
I BECOME INFERNO
Longview, Dec. 21.—An oil fire was
raging today at the Clark No. 1 Wil-
hite well north of Longview. Flames
from leaky Christmas tree connections
were shooting 600 feet into the air.
Fire fighters said the well appar-
ently caught fire when a broken pipe
line allowed the oil to run down to it
from nearlfy tanks.
They said the fire might melt thy j
Christmas tree connections and turn
the well into a blazing inferno that
would require considerable effort to
place under control.
Recent'heavy rains have made roads
leading to the well impassible for mo-
tor vehicles, and fire fighters were j
forced to walk or ride horses to i
reach it. !
