WIDENING OF

CREW STARTED WORK IN WEST
PART OF COUNTY SETTING
BACK FENCES

A crew <jf men under the direction
of the State Highway Department be-
gun work in the west part of the
county Tuesday setting back fences
and doing other work necessary to
widening Highway No. One to eighty
feet.
A committee from the Chamber of
Commerce assisted County Judge
Myers in securing the necessary per-
mission to widen the right of way,
and practically everybody from Win-
field to Mt. Pleasant had agreed to
j the widening, and no trouble is anti-
! cipated in getting the others who
*i* have not yet been approached to give
their consent.
It is the policy of the Highway
Commission to withhold all State and
Federal aid to highways in the fu-
ture unless they are at least eighty
feet in width, and for this reason it
was decided to assist in securing the
proper width for this important high-
way through the county.
The Highway department has just
completed widening the road thi*ough
Franklin County, which shows a won-
derful improvement in appearance
and gives automobiles plenty of pass-
ing room.
