Greetings.
If you have already flipped
through this week's Record and
read the stories that interested
you most 'turning to this one
only in the search for a good
sleeping aid), then you have no
doubt noticed our staff Christ-
mas greeting ad.
Like most of the businesses in
town, we try to wish everyone a
happy holiday season each year
hy reserving a space in the
paper. In the past, it has been a
simple ad with each staff mem-
ber's name listed at the bottom.
This year we wanted to do some-
thing different.
I talked to Lyndell about it
and we decided that photo-
graphs would make the greeting
more personal. But when I said
we wanted to do something
different, I meant it, as you can
see in the resulting ad.
On Thursday, 'two weeks ago i
I set up a white background and
lights, and Leon brought his
Santa Claus hat from home.
Everyone was then filed into the
“studio" for their Christmas
portraits. I developed the film
that same day and made a proof
sheet for us to study.
Late Thursday night, Lyndell
and I were choosing the best
shots of the bunch. As we ex-
pected. our pictures were excep-
tional and required little
discussion before we settled on
the final picks. We decided to let
the remaining staff members
choose for themselves, but we
made some observations that 1
want to share with you.
First, look at Leon's picture.
You think that's funny? You
should have seen the ones we
did not use.
Between fits of laughter over
Leon's expression. I nudged
Lyndell and asked him who
J.W’s picture reminded him of.
His immediate response was.
“The Gnnch." For those unfor-
tunate few who have never
heard of Dr. Seuss. the Gnnch
w as a bah-humbug sort of fellow-
who tried to ruin Christmas for
the residents of Whoville in the
animated classic The Gnnch
Who Stole Christmas
It was unanimous by noon of
the next day. Everyone at the
office thought J.W. definitely
looked like the Grinch.
Tom Held, a good friend of
mine visiting from Michigan,
came m late Friday. I showed
him the picture and wait-
ed...one...two seconds.
■'The Gnnch." Tom said
Shortly after that. Joe White
came in. “Who does J.W look
like in this picture." 1 asked
him.
Joe thought for a minute.
“Well, he looks familiar." But
that was as far as he got. I guess
Joe must be one of the unfor-
tunate few.
So there you have it. Our 1986
Christmas greeting ad. com-
plete with Grinch. Goofy, and
the whole bunch.
Don't you people envy me0
How many of you can call your
bosses names like' Grinch and
Goofy-—in the newspaper—and
get away with it9
RECIPE FOR LIVING
By Stevie Phillips
God’s Gift Of Love Is Eternal
We have all read about
No room in the inn,
The birth in the stable
Of The Saviour of men.
Riches are not essential
Jesus proved by His birth.
The gift of eternal life
We must accept u hile on earth.
Believing, accepting, and confessing
Our sins and repent.
It was for our salvation
To earth, Jesus was sent.
God ’s Gift of Love is eternal.
With eternal life for evermore.
May this be the Merriest Christmas
You’ve ever had and happiness galore!
A Merry Christmas is what
each of us wish for others as well
as ourselves. Also we add wi
our wish that God's blessir
may abound with us in abi
dance. Then we each. throu(
love, have a desire to give to
others. If love is not our motive
for giving, the joy of giving is
diminished.
It reminds us of John 3:16
Tor God so loved the world that
He Gave His only begotton
Son.-' —Through His Son. Jesus,
eternal life is given to all those
that believe and accept Him as
their Saviour.
When Christmas is near, we
often hear these words, “WThat
I want 'desire for Christmas is
...,” or “I am giving presents to
♦ »
Whether you are the giver or
the recipient, love should be the
main factor. If we receive gifts,
we tend to cherish the love and
caring that comes with the gift
If we give to others through
love, there is a joy in our hearts
and a warm feeling within
God s love came with Jesus
Now through Jesus we have
eternal life and much more
benefits while we are still here
on earth
We even have the emest of
our inheritance, Ephesians
1:13-14 "In Whom ye also trust-
ed. after that ye heard the word
of truth, the goapel of your sal
vatton: in whom alao after ye be
lieved. ye were sealed with that
Holy Spirit of promise. Winch is
the earnest of our inheritance
until the redemption of the pur-
chased possission. unto the
praise of His glory "
Before we receive any gift this
Christmas, let us be sure we
have first received God s Gift to
the world. His Son Jesus. Then
we can truely say we are having
a Merry Christmas!
Don't forget that Christmas is
to commemorate the birth of Je-
sus Christ a Saviour to all that
accept Him.
I wish all of you dear readers
of Recipe For Living, a very
Meryy Christmas with God's
blessings Remember God loves
you!
